Greetings!
Here in the Northwest we are overjoyed to have sunshine and warmer weather! What a difference it makes to see the sun each day, a perfect reminder of the Light in our hearts. Those of you who live in sunny climates, gratefully embrace this gift! Aadil is back from a wonderful trip to New Yoga City and flies out next week to spend a full, in-depth week at the beautiful Kripalu Yoga Center in the Berkshires, then to San Diego, and finally back home for a 5-day immersion at Yoga Centers. Here in Bellevue, we are hosting our 500 hour teacher training students, whose level of commitment and dedication to their practice is heart-opening. On Saturday and Sunday, they meet with Savitri for a meditation immersion focusing on healing. If you are feeling a lack of clarity in your mind recently, just keep centering and surrounding yourself with Light. The Divine is eager and ready to help us all heal! In Love and Light, Aadil and Savitri |

| The First Step in True Yoga | | |
Most of us have lost touch with our feelings. We have become analytical creatures, weighing pros and cons, developing our minds - which is brilliant for an analytical age. But what has this given us? We have intense war and anger, we have huge problems on our planet, and we do not know ourselves. Our mind has taken us about as far as it can go - on its own. It is time for the mind to be illumined by the heart. The first step is to develop our awareness of our feelings.
When it comes to feelings, there is no way out but through. If I feel afraid that I might lose my partner, my home, or my job, and if I choose to ignore that feeling, it becomes a shadow that we would rather brush under the carpet and hope it disappears! But eventually, the pile builds up and we trip on the carpet and fall and hurt ourselves. That is why the foundation is TRUTH - looking at ourselves honestly.
Most of us are quite content not feeling, or avoiding, or burying our feelings because we want to appear nice and good and happy! While it is important to always smile and be happy - so we continue to attract positive energy into our lives - we must also always be honest and continue to explore our feelings, fears, and anxieties on the inside. We have to keep the mind focused on creative energy, which is always luminous and abundant, and we have to look inside our selves and see what we are really feeling - and we must watch this constantly!
That is why, when I am really practicing yoga, the first muscle to strengthen is awareness. My practice may start with becoming aware of the Pit of the Abdomen in asana, but for this to be true yoga, it must eventually blossom into the awareness of what is going on inside me. |

| Is It Safe to Eat Fish? | | |
I am often asked, "Is it safe to eat fish?" There are many reasons why eating fish is NOT a good idea:
- Fish absorb toxins and can be full of mercury, PCBs and antibiotics.
- Because a lot of fish served in restaurants and grocery stores is farm raised, genetically modified.
- Because a lot of fish is harvested in a brutal and irresponsible manner.
However, fish, especially salmon, is one of the best sources for omega-3s, vitamin D, protein, and antioxidants that our bodies badly need - but only if you can find fish that is safe to eat!
As you know, Savitri and I are very conscientious about the food we eat. We highly recommend the Alaskan salmon from Vital Choice because:
By nature, their wild fish are free of hazardous levels of contaminants- All of their seafood comes from well-managed and certified sustainable wild fisheries
- It is fresher and more pure than what you find in the market, since it is flash-frozen and sealed individually.
- It is simply delicious!

| Balance - Beyond the Mind | | | From the acclaimed book, Fire of Love,
by Aadil Palkhivala
Since balance cannot be codified by thoughts, it is always a matter of sensing what we need every moment. For example, to have a healthy diet, we must balance our intake according to our body's constitution, as well as to the season - eating warmer foods in winter, cooler foods in summer. Also, notice your moods: When you feel upset or angry, eat more fruit, more raw vegetables, and drink more juice - organic, of course, if possible. When you feel dull and lethargic, eat more ginger, garlic, and spicy foods. Yet keep in mind that it is balance we seek and not adherence to rules. Each one of us is unique; for some people, fruit, vegetables, and juices enliven and wake up the body, yet for others, spicy food results in lethargy and dullness. We must be willing to feel and change rather than live in the momentary comfort of our conclusions.
Just as we are unable to face left and right simultaneously, our minds are unable to hold two opposing viewpoints at the same time. When you listen to an argument between two people objectively, you'll often find that both viewpoints have validity, yet each person adamantly believes that he is unquestionably right and the other obviously wrong. Our minds habitually justify our actions and beliefs, and convince us that we are correct. This demonstrates the mind's innate inability to assess and accept balance. Therefore, we must turn to something other than the mind to help us create balance in our lives. I am, of course, speaking of our inner feelings, our innate knowing, the light and wisdom in our heart.
