Greetings!
This month, as we draw our attention to giving thanks, is a perfect time to set a new habit of living each moment in joy and gratitude. As Aristotle said, "Men acquire a particular quality by constantly acting in a particular way. We become just by performing just actions, temperate by performing temperate actions, brave by performing brave actions." May we become grateful and loving beings by constantly feeling love and gratitute.
May this quote inspire your week:
"Gratitude, it is you who opens all the closed doors and let's the Grace that saves penetrate deeply."
-The Mother, Rays of Light, page 59
This holiday season, give your family your love, light and gratitude. Indeed, this is the most valuable gift you can give.
With our love, JOY, and gratitude,
Aadil and Savitri |

| Do I React or Do I Respond? | | |
I recently taught a workshop in Chicago. One of the students asked about the yogic perspective on feeling, on how the great yogis maintain neutrality in their emotions, how they stay so balanced. It seems that there has been a misunderstanding. The great yogis whom you imagine as never getting flustered, never getting frustrated or angry or stressed - they are that way NOT because they don't feel. They are that way because they have learned one of the great secrets of yoga: the difference between controlled response and knee-jerk reaction.
Of course we must feel. How would we ever know what we are supposed to do unless we feel? We have to cultivate the ability to feel what our body it is trying to tell us when it feels pain, soreness, fatigue, or when it is enthusiastic or energetic, or scattered, stressed, or nervous. Often in yoga, teachers refer to the term "equanimity" and this has been misunderstood to mean non-feeling. But in truth equanimity has nothing to do with feeling.
Equanimity is having control over the space between feeling and the response. So of course feel happiness, sadness, and the full range in between. The question is, how do you respond to happiness and sadness? How to do you respond to stress? Do you allow these feelings to take over your whole body and mind? Or do you use your practice to learn from them and choose how you are going to respond? To react means no choice. To respond means I am able to choose. The more you increase your ability to feel, the greater your options to control your reactions. Always feel, but take time to respond.

Imagine a world where all people are aware of themselves and aware of their connection to everything; a world at peace with itself and others; a world where the planet is healthy and supportive to the life that dwells on it. This is the world the Purna Yoga Foundation is dedicated to building, one meditation student at at time. Your donation to the Purna Yoga Foundation will help offer Purna Yoga Meditation classes and workshops at a very low cost or free. These meditation techniques show people how to create the world we imagine in their own body and life. If each person reading this newsletter made a $15 donation, we would meet our initial fundraising goal! Your donation is 100% tax-deductable. Learn more at www.purnayogafoundation.org

| Purna Yoga and Pregnancy | | |
by Angelica Rose, CPYI
Pregnancy is a time of nurturing and loving, filled with joy and wonderment that a new little person is being created inside. It is an astoundingly heart-opening experience, especially when you feel the baby's movements or feel the connection growing between the two of you. It is also a time of great change and Purna Yoga offered me such helpful tools to make this experience as smooth as possible! Here are three of the tools that have helped me the most.
Asana: Inversions and backbends helped release the stress on my spine and legs and open my heart while providing a strong, steady energy. The most important part of my practice is to maintain a focus on moving Light and love into my body during the poses, helping me open to the changes taking place each day. With that focus, I've found that most of the physical pregnancy discomforts don't seem to happen!
Meditation: The centering technique, which keeps my mind focused, is important during times when the body and emotions are changing rapidly. The cocooning technique has been my favorite overall. It holds a soft, nurturing love around me, calming and supporting me. In fact, I can feel that the baby is also soothed by cocooning!
Sunrider: NuPlus has been a very important part of my diet as it helps keep me and the baby nourished and energized, and it completely eliminates cravings. Just as the meditation snacks work best when practiced throughout the day, NuPlus has its greatest effect if I eat it consistently, every hour or so, throughout the day.

P.S. We are delighted to announce that Angelica and her husband Erin welcomed their baby girl on November 2. It was a very graceful, peaceful delivery! We joyously welcome this new Purna Yoga baby!

| Peace of mind, mind of peace | | | From the acclaimed book, Fire of Love,
by Aadil Palkhivala
By meditating or practicing yoga, we should not
merely seek the peace that a wise practice inevitably leaves in its wake. Peace is not an end unto itself, just a means. When our mind is at peace, we can listen to our heart, realize our dharma, and then act upon it. A troubled, turbulent mind can hardly see itself objectively or fathom the purpose for its creation. Hence, cultivating peace of mind helps us discover the purpose for our existence. Peace must not simply serve our desire for comfort; it must serve our dharma. So find peace, yet reject peace. Strive for purposeful peace, while discarding the lethargic peace that prevents you from actively living your dharma.
