Voting for a Better World - The Purna Yoga Foundation
A non profit organization dedicated to spreading the Purna Yoga Meditation Snacks
After 3 years of planning and paperwork, the Purna Yoga Foundation is officially born! The Foundation will be scheduling meditation workshops and classes in libraries, community centers, bookstores, corporations, and other locations to introduce the meditation snacks to as many people as possible. Although we will initially begin locally the ultimate goal is to be a global presence.
Imagine a world where all people are aware of themselves and aware of their connection to everything; a world at peace with itself and others; a world where the planet is healthy and supportive of the life that dwells on it. This is the world the Purna Yoga Foundation is dedicated to building one meditation student at a time.
Since classes will be very low cost or free, we invite you to join us in building this new world by voting with your dollars in support of the Foundation.
If each person receiving this newsletter made a donation of $20 we would meet our initial fundraising goal! Your donation is 100% tax deductible. Learn more >
With gratitude and joy,

Aadil in the Media - Is yoga a religion?
Aadil was featured in a recent article on Yahoo about the controversy over yoga and religion. Here is an exerpt:
"Is yoga a religion? Categorically no, if you ask most teachers and devotees. 'Simply put, yoga is not a religion,' says Aadil Palkhivala, who grew up in Bombay and studied with B.K.S. Iyengar before founding Purna Yoga. 'It's a process that helps you become physically stronger, more mentally alert, and more emotionally stable, so you can be a better Christian, Jew, Muslim, or whatever you care to be.'" Read the full article here: "Is Yoga Un-Christian?".

Freeing the Throat
Clearing the Pathway between the Heart and Mind
by Sandra Storwick, YC Teacher
The heart is the home of our inner wisdom, our intuition. The mind is like the data- processing center. Communication between these two is vital for us to make good decisions and to feel happy and whole. When communication breaks down because of blockages in the throat, the heart has difficulty sending its wisdom to the mind, and the mind has difficulty listening to the heart, and feelings of loneliness and purposelessness can set in.
The throat is the center of expression, and when it is blocked, there is a profound impact on the physical body. How often do we hold back when we need to express a feeling, idea, or emotion? When we stop this energy of expression at the throat, it has no choice but to settle back into the body. Eventually this energy builds up and creates stiffness, which over time can turn into pain or injury.
The solution to freeing the pent-up energy locked in the throat is not necessarily to yell at someone, although sometimes screaming into a pillow can help! The solution is to gently and peacefully open the energy channels of the throat using the yoga poses and Purna Yoga Meditation to release tight areas, exhale stagnation and bring light and love from the heart into the throat. You can always heal what would have been future problems by working to free the energy blockages that will eventually create those problems. The little blockages are just trying to say, "Hey, I am here!! Will someone help to free me!"
(Sandra is giving a workshop on yoga for the neck, jaw and throat in which she will expand upon what is mentioned here. Learn more >

Nov 23: Overcoming Lethargy and Laziness
It is often said, "Don't believe everything you think." Yet, why is it so easy to listen to the little voice in our head that says, "Don't worry. You don't have to rush. It can be done later and it will all turn out okay," when it is lying. (Aadil has overcome a latent laziness through the yoga of the mind.) Join Aadil for a spirited talk about undoing, overcoming and resisting the urge to indulge in lethargy and laziness.
Nov 30: What is Happening to Our Food Today?
By the time our food makes it to our table it has often been so transformed by processing, packaging, genetic modifications, chemical pesticides, storage in warehouses, hormone injections, and all sort of new processes that it becomes less healthy. The talk will cover ways to become an educated consumer and how to preserve your diet. |
