Greetings!

Mirra and Aadil, the owners of Yoga Centers
My fall travels have begun and I look forward to seeing you in Chicago at Moksha Yoga, in Boca Raton, Florida, and in Europe.  Mirra will be teaching a lot at Yoga Centers, holding down the fort while I travel.

May you have a yoga-filled autumn.  With my love,

Aadil

Asana
Pictures, Poses, and PerformanceAadil yoga pose

It is fine to shape and strengthen the body.  It is exciting to want to do the poses that are in yoga magazines, and with the right amount of practice, and focus on alignment and safety, it is possible - but not the aim and purpose of Purna Yoga.  For students who do not think they can do advanced asana, Purna Yoga will help them become stronger and more flexible in the areas that are needed and slowly work towards the achievement of complex poses.  Yet, I repeat that yoga is not a performance.  Purna Yoga should make you feel good, reduce stress and help you to manage your job, family and health with more grace, ease and comfort. The process of Purna Yoga is an inward process which is about personal growth rather than performance of poses.

Pictures can be inspiring or scary, depending on student's point of view, but the true aim of Purna Yoga asana is to give students the opportunity to unwind and release from the stresses of life, to exercise the body in a balancing and therapeutic way, cultivate awareness to build a loving and caring relationship with their own inner self.

How to Awaken the Inner Teacher

inner teacherMeditation is an art that is no different from any other art-the more you practice, the deeper your experiences.  The right teacher will lead you to your inner teacher, and your inner teacher will guide you. My whole job as a meditation teacher is to teach people how to get to the place where the inner teacher takes over. I don't want students who lean on me for information; I want to show people how to awaken their own inner teacher who has all the information they need for their life.

To awaken your inner teacher, you must awaken your intuition. This is done by consistently centering the mind and bringing it down to the Heart Center. The next step is shielding your body from outside influences by putting a cocoon of light around the body which allows the intuitive voice to be heard over the roar of daily life. The more you surround yourself with light, the easier it is to feel your intuition. When the mind becomes exhausted, intuition finally has an opportunity to take over and make much better choices for your life than a rested mind ever could. Intuition is meant to be your own unique inner teacher and should be your only guidance in life. Intuition encourages you to turn to yourself for answers instead of allowing the outside world to dictate your choices.

Mirra Recommends Yin Chiao Yin Chiao

Yin Chiao, a formula of Chinese herbs, has been famous in China for centuries and is becoming well-known in the US.  While most people only know about taking Yin Chiao at the first sign of a cold or flu, I have found that the daily use of Yin Chiao Cheih Tu Pien helps create a protective layer around the immune system so that illnesses aren't able to penetrate the auric field. It also helps the body transition from season to season.  Be sure to get the Yin Chiao Cheih Tu Pien variety. I recommend Plum Flower Brand's extra concentrated formula, which is made from highly concentrated tea, and not ground up dried herbs, so that the herbs vital essences and oils are well-preserved. This is the only brand we sell at Yoga Centers.

The Real Story About Organic FoodsEastern Essence

If you have been eating conventionally-grown foods and can't taste the difference between these and organic foods, try this experiment yourself.  Eat organic foods for six months and notice how you feel.  Then go back and have a bite of a non-organic banana.  Can you taste the difference?  The aliveness and taste of the organic foods will become obvious once your taste buds have reawakened after your six month experiment.
Remember that your body is your most important possession; become your own best researcher and you'll always know how to give it the best.
For quick, delicious, organic meals, Mirra and I choose Eastern Essence, which we specifically developed to make eating organic easy and delicious!  We invite you to try a case for yourselves and let us know how you enjoy it!
