Dear students and friends on the path of yoga,
We trust you have enjoyed this past year of monthly newsletters and found them inspiring and useful. Please let us know if there are any particular topics you would like us to address as we enter the second year.
May the gentle voice in your heart continue to be heard.
With Love,

| Gratitude
As you begin your practice, feel gratitude that you have a body, a form. And from that place of gratitude, only then start moving into the asana. In other words, bring the feeling of gratitude which is very close to the feeling of love into your pose. When you are grateful, sparks of love flow from that place. Connect with the feeling of pure love, and let that guide you.

Why Meditate
Concentrate in the heart. Enter into it; go within and deep and far, as far as you can. Gather all the strings of your consciousness that are spread abroad, roll them up and take a plunge and sink down.
A fire is burning there, in the deep quietude of the heart. It is the Divinity in you your true being. Hear its voice, follow its dictates. The Mother, Sri Aurobindo Ashram
This statement changed my life. For years I had no idea what I was doing or why I was doing it. I was just following my inner guidance. When I read this, I thought, "That's what I'm doing!"

| Freedom from Fear
Fear can only come from living a low level of truth. Once we see things from a larger perspective, once we realize that we are part of a cosmic scheme, once we understand that all creatures are but ourselves, and our life is a manifestation of our intentions, we move from fear to power. We are now free.

A Sacred Home
In Japan and in India, there is always a tap or a flowing fountain outside the temple, the dojo, or the sacred place. Why? So that all who enter can first wash their hands to show respect for the sacred place by keeping the energy of the place clean. Our homes are sacred places. This is why we always remove our shoes and wash our hands when we enter our homes. Making this a habit will help you separate the craziness of the outer world from the sanctity of your home.

It's a Busy Summer!
It's been a busy summer at Yoga Centers! We hosted the first ever Purna Yoga 200-hour month-long teacher training in June, and are happy to report it was a huge success! The students really grew and progressed over the month. One student, who is also a Pilates Instructor, said, "I learned more about my role as a yoga teacher than I ever imagined!" We are excited to be offering the 200-hour course again starting September 4-this time in a weekend format (7 weekends over 8 weeks, ending October 31). We are also busy preparing for the 500-hour course, which is a 7 month journey, starting October 27. (We highlighted this course in last month's issue.) This course is designed to serve local or out-of-area students, as it consists of 3 two-week intensives at Yoga Centers, one in October, January, and May. We also look forward to the arrival of Aadil's new book, Fire of Love: For Students of Life, for Teachers of Yoga. This is the much-expanded (and much-anticipated!) version of the first edition that came out last year. If you didn't receive the email announcing the pre-publication sale, please go to our Online Store, where you can order a copy to be shipped on or before September 5. Finally, we have been working with Mirra and Aadil to plan their 2009 teaching schedule, which includes the ultimate in teacher training, the Purna Yoga Asana Certificate Level Program, for teachers who wish to become Certified Purna Yoga Asana Instructors and work intimately with Aadil and Mirra. Stay tuned for further details about their other classes in 2009. You won't want to miss them! Have a beautiful summer, filled with growth and change! | |
