Dear students and friends on the path of yoga, Mirra and Aadil, the owners of Yoga Centers

As you spend more time outdoors in the summer, don't forget to spend time indoors in the doors of your heart.

 Your Intention for Asana
Asana June 2008

Begin your asana practice with the Purna Yoga Meditation Snacks, and come into your heart chakra. Contact the Pillar of Light. Send the message to your body and your ego that the real me is this Light.

Acknowledge that your body is just a temporary outfit, and that the true me is this Divine ray of light that nourishes the outfit with life force. Then clarify your intention by saying to yourself, "I am trying to integrate the real me into my physical form. This is my time to come into my body, to become centered. I'm here to enter my body, not to leave it."

Meditation May 2008 Cleaning Up the Brain

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. An image can provoke hundreds of thoughts, mostly subconscious.  Everything we sense has stories hidden within it. We receive an enormous amount of information and energy from the outside world, mostly through media, and much of it is channeled through the third eye in the center of our forehead.

As a result of absorbing all this energy, our third eye gets clogged with the residual build-up. When we get headaches or eye aches, the gunk we feel between our eyes is that residual energy. Our brain becomes overwhelmed - it doesn't know what to do with this glut of information, and it can no longer discern what is true.

In Purna Yoga Meditation, we lift up these blockages of energy, and give them to the Light. In doing this, we are becoming more receptive to our truth.

"Beauty is His footprint showing us where He has passed."
- Sri Aurobindo, "Savitri"

Beauty is usually a function of the free flow of energy. So beauty in yoga is also health since disease occurs in the body where energy is not flowing freely. Beauty, not mere appearance, is the most important thing to cultivate in the physical body. Where there is beauty, there is energy flow.  So strive for beauty and simplicity in your yoga practice, and all around you, and within you.

How to Use Music  Nutrition May 2008

"All music is only the sound of His laughter," claimed Sri Aurobindo. Music is meant to raise our consciousness and move us closer to the connection we have with our soul. So, when you choose to listen to music, there are two factors. One, turn music on when you plan to listen to it, not as a background filler. That distracts the mind and prevents you from being present in the moment. Enjoy listening to your own thoughts, enjoy feeling your own feelings. Second, when you do listen to music, feel. Is the music uplifting? Is it inspiring? Does it leave you peaceful, calm, and focused? Does your heart open when you hear it?

A fascinating story about how we live from karma (repeating old ways of living) and the importance of living from our heart.

The Next Step in Your Yoga Profession:  The 500-hour Level

This message is for those of you who are yoga teachers, who have already done a 200-hour teacher training program, who are inspired by the wisdom of Purna Yoga, who aspire to live yoga more deeply, and who want to share the gifts of yoga more powerfully with others.

Aadil and Mirra have created a professional level of teacher training.  The new course, the College of Purna Yoga 500-hour Level, begins on October 27.  The course offers 300 hours of training to supplement the foundational level of a 200-hour training.  (We also have a 200-hour course starting on September 4, and running through October 31, in a weekend format. 200-hour Level)

If you have already completed a 200-hour training and are ready for the next level, please view the information on the 500-hour Level.  Meeting for two weeks in October, February, and May, the course takes you from "knowing" yoga to "living" yoga.  Join us, step up, and step into your true self.
