Dear students and friends on the path of yoga,
The plants have started to blossom. The buds are starting to bloom. Nature is hinting that it's time for you to grow too. See you in class!

| The Asana Antenna
Each yoga pose is like an antenna that connects you with a certain vibration of the Divine. By the word vibration, I mean a form of wisdom. Each pose offers us a different way to unite with a higher wisdom. So the Warrior Pose gives us a certain kind of wisdom that the Hero's Pose can't. As we practice each pose, we move our body so that our soul can enter us more fully. We align the soul with the body so that it may bestow upon us its particular wisdom. And then we move to the next pose, and another truth.

The Soul and the Body
Yoga's message is how to unite spirit with matter, soul with body. The body, after all, is just an outfit. When it wears out, your soul gets a new one. Obviously, your soul holds a great wisdom within it. It is the real you. When you do asana with only a concern for its outer form, you are not acknowledging the real you. You are just basically altering and tailoring your outfit, while forgetting to feed that which wears the outfit. What we aspire for is not the satisfaction of the ego, but the delight of the soul. Your soul knows that you are not just a body, but you live in multiple realities.
The challenge for those who have discovered their soul in meditation is to then integrate the body with that soul. Alignment-based asana and Active Meditation make a beautiful pair. They are two paths to the same destination, two sides of the same union-body and soul, and their happy marriage. Yoga, after all, is union.

Embracing Life
One of my very dear friends and students in Hawaii, Marcia Carmen directed the Big Island Yoga Center for many years. Last August, Marcia was told by her doctor that she had an untreatable form of cancer and had a very short time to live. As soon as she heard the diagnosis, she did something that most people would fear to do. She immediately accepted the fact that she was going to die. Rather than being distraught with fear and distracted by self-pity, she focused on wrapping things up, and dying in peace. A few weeks later, on September 20th, she shut her eyes and passed away in her own home. A death with dignity.
Marcia taught us a very valuable lesson in her final days. When faced with the inevitable, we must smile and accept. However, if there is a chance to live more fully, we must grasp each moment, and do whatever must be done to fulfill our dharma, our purpose.

Balancing the Immune System
Allergies are often the result of an over-stimulated immune system that does not receive the message to stop fighting the allergen even after it is gone, and therefore ends up fighting the body itself. To balance the immune system, I consume one heaping teaspoon of Alpha 20 C in my NuPlus two times a day, and several capsules of Prime Again. (All Sunrider products.) In terms of asana, a daily Sarvangasana practice helps balance the immune system. Even a brief five-minute practice of seated or supine Ujjayi pranayama enhances the life force in the lungs and the thymus, thereby balancing the immune response.
