Dear students and friends on the path of yoga,
I, Aadil, have just returned from a month-long trip through Sweden, Austria, Germany, and England where students are hungering for the knowledge that Purna Yoga offers. Mirra has continued to fan the home flames at Yoga Centers. Please enjoy the November newsletter.

Blockages
If the blockages that manifest on a physical level can be solved on a psychic or energetic level through meditation, why even do asana? Because asana is a focused process of revealing and undoing blockages-it is a form of meditation, a process of exploration. When we find we are not able to move smoothly in a pose, there is a blockage. That blockage is a shadow, a layer of ignorance that we have created or have inherited from the family or society. So then it is our job to decide, "Do I want this blockage or do I release it?"

| Empty Stomach
Pranayama cannot be done with anything in the stomach--not even water. Why is this? When the stomach is full, it presses on the diaphragm right above it. In fact, after having an unduly large meal, we find it a little difficult to breathe. Thus, the stomach must be empty before we do Pranayama because we are using the diaphragm. This is why morning practice makes so much sense. Additionally, digestion makes the blood flow to the intestines and we want all our energy available for Pranayama. So, how long to wait after eating? After a light meal of fruit, just two hours. However, if you eat a large quantity of greasy fried steaks (God forbid!), then it may stay in the stomach many hours, and perhaps even overnight. In this case, it may be eight hours before you can practice. So it depends on the type of food you are ingesting, and the type of Pranayama you are doing.

The Gift of the Body
When you connect with Light, there is a tendency to want to leave the body. But the body says, "I can't live if you are not here!" The body's gift is that it helps you to be focused. It reminds us, "This is where the NOW is for you, at this moment." The fact is that we can go anywhere with our minds and spirits, so our struggle is to stay in the here and now, in the body.

Law of Karma
Whatever you put out into the universe will come back to you. This idea is expressed in every spiritual tradition. There is no way to circumvent this law of karma. Karma is not something that God does to you. Karma is simply Newton's Third Law in action in the universe. "Action has a reaction." Kar means "to do," ma means "me," so what we do we actually do to ourselves. We live in a closed universe, so every action must bounce around and affect us in some way or the other. As Blake said, "You cannot move a blade of grass without affecting a star." Today, ask, "What am I giving to the universe? Therefore, what is coming back to me?"

Upset Stomach
When I get an upset stomach, I find that putting a few drops of Sunbreeze (a Sunrider* product) into my mouth soothes my stomach. Alternately, when it is food poisoning, I take three homeopathic remedies every half hour: Nux Vomica, Veratrum, and Carbo Veg. This takes the problem away within a couple of hours. In general, to strengthen your digestive system, take Sunrider's Assimilaid with every meal for a few years, and then you won't need to take it again on a regular basis.
