SEPTEMBER, 2010
Help us get it right!

A  short while ago, the Chamber office mailed to you a very important piece of information, your 2010-2011 Directory Member Listing Confirmation form.

Your Marketing Committee is hard at work on our 2010-2011 Membership Directory & Resource Guide and, above all else, wants to make sure the latest version of this valuable marketing tool has your company or organization's member information correct and up to date!  Our deadline for submitting this to the printer is fast approaching. Please take the time now to review your listing.  It will only take a minute and we want to make sure that the 20,000 copies of our members' contact, website and business category listings are spot on.  Remember too, that this same information appears in the Chamber's website directory which can be accessed from all corners of the globe.

Also, there is still time left to place a display ad in the annual directory.  As was announced earlier, the new Directory will now be in a larger format, heavier in weight and, although larger, we are keeping last year's pricing for even a greater marketing value.  As the Directory is also a reference guide to the greater Easthampton area, your one ad equals year-round exposure!  Please click on this link for information on this exceptional advertising opportunity.

Member Spotlight - Easthampton Travel

Sunset from a cruise ship
Easthampton Travel opened in 1991 and moved to their new location in the Eastworks building just this past January. As a retail travel agency, they offer assistance with everything from a simple car rental or airline ticket to an extensive African Safari or Around the World Cruise. Owner Vicky Puza-Allen describes her business as providing "convenient one-stop shopping" for leisure or corporate travel. "There's nothing we can't do," she says.

One of their lesser-known but popular offerings is a bridal registry. Couples who already have many of the necessary house wares can sign up with Easthampton Travel and their guests can help pay for the honeymoon. Vicky and her colleague Marilyn also offer various guided tours for groups from the Easthampton area.

Vicky Puza-Allen of Easthampton Travel
Why use a travel agent in the age of the Internet? Vicky declares that it comes down to not only service but also peace of mind. She encourages anyone shopping for airfare at online discount sites to "try us first. We'll get you a better flight 99% of the time." If a flight is canceled due to weather problems, a travel agent can help you rebook and avoid long lines. As the saying goes, "If you don't use a travel agent, you're on your own."

As a business owner, Vicky values her Greater Easthampton Chamber membership primarily for the opportunities to meet other businesses and connect with the community. "I love the networking nights," she says. "Even if you only attend a few each year, it can make a difference."

Would you like your business to be featured in a future Member Spotlight? Contact the Chamber office and we will put you on the list.

Member News - Dance Store Leaps Over the River

Mary Ann Hanlon, owner of Mary Ann's Dance and More at 58 Cottage St. in Easthampton, recently opened a satellite store in Hadley to cater to her base of customers located east of the Connecticut River. Hanlon recently told the Daily Hampshire Gazette that her new store will cater to dance students ranging in age from very young to college students, since the location allows her to connect easily with dancers at nearby UMass, Hampshire College, and Mount Holyoke College. For now, the satellite store will be open the last Sunday of every month from noon to 5 p.m.

Area News - It's Harvest Time for Valley Farmers

Some of the selection at the Easthampton Farmer's Market
Fruit at Farmer's Market
While it may still feel like summer, area farmers are already in fall mode: bringing in this year's bountiful harvest of local produce. Pedestrians in downtown Easthampton can stumble upon the farmer's market, which is open on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the Union Street plaza (with plenty of parking for drivers, too).

Bashista Orchards and Cider Mill in Southampton has over 20 varieties of apples, pears, and plums at their store, and Mayval Farm in Westhampton offers free-range eggs and grass-fed beef. Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture (CISA) offers an extensive list of farmers markets, growers, and restaurants at www.buylocalfood.com.

We are open Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm stop by 33 Union Street Easthampton, MA 01027. Please do not hesitate to give us a call (413) 527-9414 or send us an email
