Help for Haiti
January 14, 2010
Dear Members and Friends,
Photos of the massive devastation caused by the earthquake that hit Haiti yesterday tugs at our heartstrings. This disaster hits home for us as our dedicated custodial staff, Wisly and Jeannie Bernard and Louis Montilus, are from Haiti and have family there.
Many people have asked what we can do to help the thousands of victims of what is already one of the poorest countries in the world. Right now, the best way to help is through financial donations. Several funds have been established to provide financial assistance to Haiti and Haitians affected by the earthquake.
Donations can be made directly to one of the following funds or to Temple Israel and we will then forward your donation to the Red Cross. Contributions to the tzedakah boxes in the sanctuary will be sent to the Red Cross as well.
The Union for Reform Judaism has set up a disaster relief fund with a link to make tax-deductible donations on your credit card.
MAZON (A Jewish Response to Hunger) http://mazon.org/go/helphaiti.
If and when we learn that supplies are needed, such as clothing, food, blankets, medicines, etc., we will send another e-mail blast with those requests. We pray that the people of Haiti will receive an outpouring of assistance which will help them to heal from this tragedy.
