Move-In has begun and as you start getting back to Tallahassee for the Fall semester you may have noticed that your fridge is a little empty.Don't worry - we've got plenty of grazing opportunities for you to eat your fill.  

For anyone trying to keep kosher, it's not always easy. Hillel at FSU just make it easier! We now offer a glatt kosher food market on our website where you can get all the groceries you may need. Also Hillel serves Kosher food at all of its major events, so take a look at this news letter and find out what's going on in the coming weeks.

1-2-3 Homestyle Shabbat services followed by a light spaghetti Oneg and dessert. Join us for a short Shabbat service and meet new friends to spend your first weekend back in Tallahassee with!

Friday August 31st, 7p @Hillel

Shabbat Walk- We will be meeting students at 6:45 at: Integration Statue, Fresh Foods, Swannee Dinning Hall, and Reagan/Wildwood Loop.

First traditional sit-down Shabbat, which will include a full service followed by matzo ball soup and chicken dinner! Bring your friends and enjoy a warm home feeling for Friday night dinner.

First Bagel Brunch of Fall 2012!Bagels
Sunday, August 26th, 12p @Hillel

Bagels, lox, cream cheese, hummos, veggies and

 lots of noshes! Stop by, bring friends, and meet some new ones! This is a great chance to meet new and old students moving back to Tallahassee and find out about future events. We will be taking our BIG group picture for the year so make sure to arrive before 12:15. RSVP on Facebook

Hillel is back in the Union for more tabling, but this time it's for the Involvement. If you have some free time between classes or just want to walk on campus, visit our student leaders by the Oglesby Union. We still have Mezuzahs to give out so make sure to come get yours next Tuesday.

Registration opens on September 12 and you don't want to miss out on your chance to go to Israel for FREE! Registration to go to Israel for anyone who has NEVER applied before opens Sept. 12 at 10am and for anyone who has already applied on Sept. 10 at 12pm. If you'd like to be a part of celebrating Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur here at FSU, great. We'll be holding services in room 203 of the Student Services Building (above the Denny's diner). Hillel services are pluralistic, embracing, student-focused and open to everyone. We need people to help us move books from Hillel to 203SSB. We need people to read English portions, or Hebrew portions, or help with any part of the services. Send email to High Holy Intern Sharon Sturm and tell her what interests you.

Every fall Hillel at FSU print t-shirts and hoodie with Florida State in Hebrew. You can order one with us (at the first Bagel Brunch, August 26). Better yet, tell your parents or your grandparents about our Parents' Leadership Circle. Depending on the amount they donate, you get goodie - like a free shirt, and soup when your sick, even free seats at Rosh HaShana dinner and first Passover. Be the Change You Want to See.
EVERY help wanted DAY!

Come be a part of transforming Jewish life at FSU. This fall join the Jewish leadership day, apply for an Avodah internship, lend a hand with High Holy Day Services, come out to Mitvah Mondays with Moe's. If you've got an idea to reach more Jewish students or that benefits the entire community at FSU, come talk to us about it. We have ways to get your idea funded. Meet Ron for coffee on Fridays or make an appointment to talk to Melanie.

 

Opportunities 

Kosher Market 

The Kosher Market is a service provided by Hillel at FSU. Order the type of kosher meat and products you don't normally find in Tallahassee. Visit this link on our website to see the full selection. There will be two orders of kosher for Passover food made after Spring break, so if you don't bring back what you need, consider shopping with us.

 

Do you get a Work-Study Grant for 2012-2013?

If you'd like to work at Hillel and you received a Work-Study grant for the coming year, let us know. Send you letter of interest and resume for the receptionist position(s) to Melanie Annis. 

 

Meals on Wheels Volunteer Opportunity! 

Each Labor Day, Temple Israel members and friends prepare and deliver Meals on Wheels.  Without our help, meals will not be delivered on this holiday.  Please sign up to help Elder Care Services' clients eat well on this Labor Day holiday.  At least 10 people are needed to prepare and organize the meals in the kitchen. Kitchen volunteers should arrive at Elder Care Services (2518 W. Tennessee Street) at 8:30 A.M. and you'll be finished by

10:30 A.M. There are 35 delivery routes so we need about 35 families or individuals to sign up.  Delivery volunteers will arrive around 10:15 A.M. and you'll be finished around Noon. Please e-mail Ron.  After you sign up, I'll send you directions and instructions.

JNF National Conference and Israel Trip

Jewish National Fund's National Conference brings together hundreds of committed Jewish leaders from across the country to learn about the key issues of the day that affect us in the U.S. and in Israel as well as JNF's ongoing vital work for the land and people of Israel. 

The conference is October 21-22 in Orlando

Just Sunday-$50 Both Sunday and Monday- $100 (Includes Dinner)

Want to go back to Israel on a service trip?

JNF offers a 10 day community service trip for students who want to make a difference in Israel. During the trip you will stay in two different cities and do a number of different types of servicing. Yael is a graduate student at Tel Aviv University. She's coming to FSU in September for six weeks to work at the social psychology lab. She's looking for someone to help her on a daily basis with her five month old baby. If you're interested, send her email
