President's Message

Dear Friends,

I am excited to share with you the progress that we are making on some of the strategic goals adopted by your Board of Directors earlier this year. As we know from working in our own organizations and agencies, collaboration is important. During the month of April, the Center for Nonprofit Management and AFP will be honoring member prices at each other's April programs. On April 13th the Center will offer "Creating & Negotiating Engaging Sponsorships," led by Ann Ransom, and on April 28th AFP presents Niki McCuistion speaking on "Women, Wealth and Giving: The Virtuous Legacy of the Boom Generation." To register for either, or even better, both programs, go to www.afpdallas.org and www.cnmdallas.org. We are looking forward to even more collaboration with the CNM and other like-minded organizations.

Soon chapter members will be receiving information about a series of Executive Conversations designed for fundraising professionals with at least ten years of experience or individuals holding a senior executive position. Attendance will be limited to 15 to encourage discussion. It is our hope that this initiative will provide another meaningful benefit to Greater Dallas AFP membership. The first such Executive Conversation will be held on June 17th at my home with Eliza Solender leading a discussion on "Real Estate & Fundraising...Acquiring Real Estate Through Lease or Purchase in Today's Economy Requires Creative Ways to Raise Funds." The second Conversation will be hosted by Mary Brumbach on September 16th. Mary and I are coordinating the 2010 series and welcome your suggestions as this program takes shape and is launched.

Each year, we are asked to support the AFP Every Member Campaign and, while we receive a portion of the donated funds back for use in Dallas at the chapter level, the majority has gone to support national programs. After careful deliberation, the Board has approved a new campaign, AFP NOW.  For each dollar donated 70% will remain in Dallas and 30% will be directed to AFP International. Victor Korelstein and Luanne Samuel will be telling you more about this in the weeks ahead. I urge you to support this campaign, which will bring needed resources to our Chapter for scholarships and programs.

We have a strong contingent heading to Baltimore this month for the AFP International Conference. I look forward to seeing many of you there and bringing back to the membership what we learn and observe.

My best,
