Greetings!,
Congratulations to all who entered the 18th Annual Tiny Lights Personal Essay Contest! You have once again created a fine agony for our judges!
Each of you who sent in material has won a victory over your doubts and hesitations. Celebrate!
Perhaps you'll treat yourself to the latest Flash in the Pan posting or the current Searchlights & Signal Flares. Or take a few minutes for this poem by Maya Angelou, who as a child became mute for 6 years after an assault. She literally found her voice again by writing and speaking poetry. Imagine what writing can do for you.

Searchlights & Signal Flares Tiny Lights' Online Writers' Exchange
You probably don't need another excuse not to write, but here's the one I heard myself using the other day: "If I don't have time to write, how can I possibly have time to REVISE?" After I enjoyed my little pout, I decided to ask a more useful question,
"How do you know what to cut?" Read what Catherine Crawford this month's featured writer, has to say on the subject, along with our other contributors:
This Month's Featured Writer: Catherine Crawford
Catherine Crawford has been showing up for Searchlights questions since 2009, and as time goes on, I appreciate her contributions more and more. Catherine is a former technical writer, editor, and course materials developer for high tech industries. She has taught college English at the four-year degree level, published two award winning chapbooks of poetry, and written articles for 52perfectdays.com, a Portland, Oregon online travel magazine. She works as an editor in Vancouver, Washington. Her email: greenwriter1960@gmail.com
How do you know you're a writer? (Deadline 4/15/12)

Guidelines
What is a Flash in the Pan? It's life caught in the blaze of a match, a beam of moonlight, the glare of a home-made explosion. These pieces of first-person non-fiction prose (500 words or less) are like potato chips--you won't be able to stop with just one. Our gems are posted quarterly in January, April, July and October on the Tiny Lights website. A select few appear in the hard copy editions of the magazine. Send your jewels to editor@tiny-lights.com.
