SPARKS: News & Notes from
Tiny Lights: A Journal of Personal Narrative

|
Greetings!,
Technically, If I mail this issue of Sparks before midnight tonight, I can still call it October Bonfires. I wouldn't want you to miss the October's Searchlights: "How do you cast light on the dark side of a story?" And so I am determined to hit "send" soon! I am also determined to mail the latest hard copy issue of Tiny Lights, delayed but not forgotten. Life, as you undoubtedly know, doesn't always help us with deadlines. The next Flash in the Pan is also going to have to wait until next month to appear. November, then, should be a treasure trove of personal narrative! Here is a video to show you how it's been lately, but of course, it's always this way, and more. | Some Days |
And because it is that way with you, too, you must always Keep Writing. Susan Bono, Editor

Flash in the Pan Online Quarterly
Coming in November
(Sorry for the delay!)
The Twenty-sixth Flash in the Pan!
Guidelines
What is a Flash in the Pan? It's life caught in the blaze of a match, a beam of moonlight, the glare of a home-made explosion. These pieces of first-person non-fiction prose (500 words or less) are like potato chips--you won't be able to stop with just one. Our gems are posted quarterly in January, April, July and October on the Tiny Lights website. A select few appear in the hard copy editions of the magazine. Send your jewels to editor@tiny-lights.com.

November 17: Rachael Herron The Dreaded ReWrite: Taking the Fear out of Revision
Contrary to popular belief, the real fun is just getting started after a writer types "The End." Many balk at the idea of revision, thinking it's too big a job, unable to break it up into manageable pieces.Walk with Rachael through concrete steps to beginning (and finishing) reviisons on your work and learn that the real magic is what happens after the first draft.
