When a Big Bang For The Buck is Sorely Needed...

September 22nd 2008 The Wine Connection

Cote-Rotie can be as mouth-watering and seductive as any wine in the world but, unfortunately, they can also be quite expensive. After tasting and falling in love with Duclaux' 2003, we felt that it was certainly one of the greatest bargains we've ever encountered.

Trust us, this is a serious wine and an absolute steal.

Rivetti

Benjamin et David Duclaux Cote-Rotie 2003 $479.00 per case (10 cases available)

"An up-and-coming estate, brothers Benjamin and David Duclaux own approximately 13 acres of vines in the Cote Blonde sector of the appellation, near Tupin. They utilize about 20% new oak as well as 100% destemming. Approximately 5% Viognier is co-fermented with the Syrah. The superb, opaque purple-hued 2003 Cote Rotie boasts a big, sumptuous bouquet of bacon fat, honeysuckle, litchi nuts, and jammy black cherries and cassis. Dense and full-bodied, with abundant fruit and glycerin as well as a plush, opulent, voluptuous texture, it will provide plenty of pleasure over the next 10-14 years. It is the finest Cote Rotie I have yet tasted from Duclaux." 93 points Robert Parker
