Gardner Ale House
Ale House Prom Is Near, So Near!
June 4, 2012
Dear Ale House Comers & Goers,

Here it is, the 2nd quarterly newsletter in less than three weeks! Huh?

It brings me no small pleasure to manage yet another newsletter. You, no doubt, must be thinking that I have fully recovered from my broken leg, have caught up on all my work and am now at leisure to do what I really enjoy, which is to pour forth. However, it is with a sense of urgency that I now contact you, as it was with the last newsletter. You must know things. These things are as follows.
New Menu At the Ale House?

menuIt's quite often good (for me) to entitle an article using a question mark (?). In this way, I am not held to much and you can read, counting on nothing, and I can write risk free. How much freedom can one enjoy?

You know my intentions are only to enhance your experience in every corner of the building. However, you also know about good intentions. Hence, the question mark. Here is our plan. We are changing up the menu. Admit it, if you will, are you not a bit bored with it? You need not worry, I am not going after the venerable Cheese Burger or Brick Oven Pizza or Fish 'n' Chips or Steak Tips or Boneless Wings or Spinach & Artichoke Dip... But what was not in that preceding list? Beginning to sweat a little? I think you will be pleased, and it is time to kick the menu a bit out of its comfort zone. So, now that my broken leg is nearly fixed and I have caught up with my work and Cindy has nothing better to do, we are peering mightily at the menu. It's toast.

Relay For Life, Wine & Chocolate Night

Tuesday, June 5, 6-8 PM, $15

Includes Wine samples, 1 glass of wine, and the Ale House Chocolate Fountain with fruits and sweets.

Wine & Chocolate at Gardner Ale House

The Relay For Life team has gone gangbusters. In their first year they are experiencing amazing fundraising results. Celebrity bartender night was without equal and money has been changing hands over the bar ever since. I won't tally the total because I would be wrong; I am always wrong, but it's well on its way to a lot of money. Next step is Wine & Chocolate Night at the Ale House. You there?

The Prom featuring CAVES ON MARS
June 15, 9:30 PM Prom 2011
The Prom, when all of Gardner comes out looking good, as if that weren't the case already. I will be once again looking for that perfect statement to make on this
night of dresses, suits and hats. Last year, I miscalculated. In my zeal to turn out in white and strike a crisp and clean edge, slightly aloof, yet cool and confident, I somehow stumbled upon 'pimp'. It was the hat. I was doing it perfectly, but then, the hat. It's like having a single thread out of place - it can ruin one, and create a pimp. I think this year I shall go for gangster 20's or Paris in the 90's (1890's that is) and hope I don't stumble upon Laurel and Hardy or worse, Harpo Marx. Knock on wood. (Rick points to own head).

Solstice Party and Beer Breakfast
8-10 AM, Saturday, June 23

$11 Breakfast Buffet & First Beer

Special appearance by The Millers River Morris Men

First 75 people receive the commemorative
Solstice Party and Beer Breakfast 12 oz. pilsner Glass.

All this for $11 and you want to sleep in?

 Solstice Pilsner 2011

Each year we celebrate the sun's highest point in the sky by waking early and exercising our God given right to drink well before noon. Our motto becomes: "It must be 8 o'clock somewhere." At this gathering of the faithful we serve our "On Tap Now" beers plus our Espresso Stout and Orange Hef. Lovers of The Hef, lovers of good coffee and just plain lovers will attend. And also attending, always attending, will be 8 or so old men (it makes you old) of the Miller's River Morris Men, of which I am a member. And you know what Grocho Marx had to say about any group willing to admit him. The same applies here, regardless of the actual fact that I joined them and too many years ago to remember why or how to escape. These intrepid dancers of a tradition so old that even they cannot remember its origins, will dance at 9 AM sharp, because the Morris is nothing if not prompt (should begin by 9:30 anyway). They've been known to tipple a little too, but only to enable certain of their functions still asleep at the ungodly hour.

Ale House Birthday
Saturday, June 30 with Boot Hill Express, Birthday Cake
Complimentary birthday cake during the day.

Gardner Ale House 6th BirthdayOur 6th birthday is Saturday, June 30. And who among you actually believes this? You are disbelievers because you sit firmly on both sides of the fence. It seems that the Ale House has been here forever, and it seems like only yesterday. My friends, the truth lies exactly, somewhere, approximately, in the middle of the two extremes, aka 6 years. It has meaning only in that most restaurants are gone by now and we are not gone. Come on out and help us celebrate with Boot Hill Express. These boys whoop it up and they are old so you will have to help them a little.

Ah Ciao!
CiaoBy the way, I meant to tell you somewhere, that we just came off a wonderful beer dinner with a Mexican Food theme. I am very lucky to have such a talented kitchen and chef and such a great brewer. Although the master of ceremonies (ahem) often glossed over the particulars of the food and beer pairings, especially as we approached the final courses (It's a time thing), the participants were overcome with joy and satiation as each course was introduced. Thanks to all those who attended, you are the most important ingredient. And you know, we are going to do it again.

Thanks for being there.

The Deck?
Deck From Above
We are still working on the deck, in theory, meaning no pounding, digging or swearing (well, a little swearing), yet. Having traversed several regulatory hurdles, we have yet, a few more. The momentum is good, but I cannot make you promises, as is my wont. You shall know when I know. The air is thick with speculation.
