January 09

Jeana MacLeod - Adult Jeana is a 44 year old mother of two. Her two sons Teegan (13) and Owen (18) both work out at Velocity also. Jeana went to the University of Arizona for Elementary Education and then got her masters in Publishing at George Washington University. She is very active as she is a master gardener and volunteers for Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity and the League of Women Voters in Mountain Lakes. Jeana has been coming to Velocity since before we even opened our doors. She started classes in the Parsippany location and then joined here in Mahwah once we opened 3 years ago. Her says she loves all the exercises she does here except sleds and inchworms, she's not too fond of those two. She likes that even after three years at Velocity she still gets different workouts every time she comes and has more stamina, is more toned and lost weight which is why she keeps coming back. Jeana's dedication, hard work and loyalty is why she is the Velocity Sports Performance Adult January Athlete of the Month.
Nicolette Roberts - Youth
Nicolette is a 10 year old straight A student at Joyce Kilmer in Mahwah. She plays golf and runs track, but soccer is her passion. Nicolette currently plays defense for her Mahwah Raiders team and uses her speed to her advantage. Last year her team came in 2nd in their flight and will now be moving up a flight to face even tougher competition. She has been training at Velocity Sports Performance for over a year and has noticed an increase in her strength, speed and ability to get to the ball faster. Her favorite Velocity workout is multi directional days and her favorite exercise is the slide boards. When she slows down, Nicolette enjoys writing and reading as more mellow pastimes. Nicolette's plans for the future include attending college, but she is undecided on what career she would like to embark on. Nicolette's commitment to her own goals and never ending positive attitude make her a perfect fit for the Velocity Sports Performance January Athlete of the Month.
Tom Garone - D1
Tom is 14 years old and is in 8th grade at the Franklin Avenue Middle School. Tom made honor roll last month and his favorite subject right now is Art. He plays many sports such as lacrosse, basketball, skiing and football but his main sport is golf. In fact, he won a 9 hole Jr. Championship at the Arzola Country Club and also recently got a personal low score of 88 in an inner club match. Tom does plan to go to college but it's too early to know where he will go or what he will major in. He has been coming to Velocity since September 2008. His favorite part of his work outs is when they do sleds. Tom says that since working out here he can hit the gold ball further and notices he gets open more often in LAX and isn't as tired as he used to be. Tom is a hard worker and has made significant improvements which is why he is January's D1 Athlete of the Month.
Eric Jacobs - D2
Eric is a 16 year old Junior at Clarkstown South High School. Eric is a 2 sport athlete focusing on both Baseball and Hockey. He has been playing both sports since he was 5 and currently plays left field in baseball and left wing in hockey. He plays for his high school team and a travel team in both sports. Eric would like to continue to play baseball or hockey in college at the NCAA or club level, depending on what school he goes to. Eric plans to major in Math, Science or Communications to help him get into the production side of television broadcasting. Eric's favorite sports moment is the fact that his Ramapo Saints Hockey Team has won the districts for the last two years. He has been training at Velocity for over a year and has noticed major improvements in his ability to stay on the puck, in his batting power, and in skating and running speed. Eric's favorite Velocity Sports Performance lesson is acceleration and his favorite exercise is sleds. Eric's consistent effort to improve his athleticism, his incredible work ethic and his ability to learn has earned him the title of Velocity Sports Performance January Developmental 2 Athlete of the Month.
