December 08

John Steffich - Adult John is a 76 year old multi sport athlete from Ringwood. He is an avid golfer, tennis player, hiker, and basketball player. John was a physical education teacher in Wyckoff before going into medical sales and management. John is now retired and enjoys going to his grandson's football games, spending more time on golf and tennis, and keeping up with his wife's busy schedule. John has been training at Velocity for over a year now. His focus is on improving balance, coordination, flexibility, muscle strength and overall condition. According to John, the sessions give him increased energy and put him in a positive frame of mind. John's favorite sports memory happened this year when his grandson's football team, Brookfield High School in CT, won the state championship. When asked what John wants to be when he grows up, his response was "alive and kicking". A fitting response if you know John at all. John's commitment to keeping himself healthy and safe, as well as his positive outlook and focus on his family is what has earned him the Velocity Sports Performance Adult December Athlete of the Month.
Brandon McGregor - Youth
Brandon is a 9 year old 4th grader with a passion for sports. He plays on travel soccer, baseball and basketball teams. In addition, he has been studying Taekwondo for the past 6 years and has recently earned his black belt. Brandon's favorite sport is soccer where he plays center midfield for his travel team. His favorite teams include Arsenal and the Red Bulls. Brandon plans on going to college and then pursuing a career in professional soccer or baseball. Sports memories and moments are constantly popping up for this multi sport athlete, but he narrowed it down to 2 for us. Last year during a travel baseball game he went 5 for 5 and pitched 4 innings only giving up 2 runs. In soccer he has 4 career hat tricks including 3 last year. Brandon has been training at Velocity for over a year and has seen a big increase in his speed, agility and strength. Last year he was one of only 2 students in his class to receive the Presidential Physical Fitness Award. Brandon's favorite Velocity exercise is the max effort build up. Brandon's hard work, determination to improve his skills, and positive attitude have earned him the Velocity Sports Performance Youth December Athlete of the Month.
Haley Insley - D1
Haley is 14 years old an attends Pascack Valley in Hillsdale. She gets A's and B's in school and her favorite subject is social studies. Haley plays lacrosse and she mostly plays attack. When not playing lacrosse or coming to Velocity, she likes to go snowboarding. Haley plans on going to college and thinks she might do something in business but isn't sure where yet. She's keeping her options open. Haley has been coming to Velocity for over 3 months now and says she feels much faster and stronger. Haley pays attention in class, corrects herself and is just a good kid which is why she is December's D1 Athlete of the Month.
Jason Floyd - D2
Jason is a 15 year old freshman at Mahwah High school. Although he does a little bowling on the side, his main sport is lacrosse. He has been playing lacrosse for 6 years and is now a member of the high school team. Jason's combination of strength and speed make him perfect for the defensive position he plays. His plans for the future include attending college where he would like to continue to play lacrosse. He has plenty of time to pick a school but his first choice would be Syracuse. Jason's favorite lacrosse memory was scoring a goal from midfield with his long pole, catching an unsuspecting goalie by surprise. Velocity has had Jason as a client for 4 months and he has seen significant gains in his speed and strength. His favorite Velocity exercises are inchworm push up and the Olympic lifts in the weight room. Jason's consistent effort to meet his goals and his solid work ethic are the qualities that have earned him the Velocity Sports Performance D2 December Athlete of the Month.
