October 08

Susan Nold - Adult Susan is 36 years old and takes care of her 3 children - Eddie is 7, Lily is 5 and Henry is 3. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a double major in English and Education. Susan taught high school English for 8 years and is looking to get back to teaching soon. When she has time, she also likes to play tennis, golf and run in ½ marathons with her husband. They like to take a trip somewhere nice to race and last year they went to Bermuda. Susan also just finished as the President of her Woman's Club. She actually found Velocity when we had a booth at the HoHoKus 5k race that she served as race director. From there, she and her husband and her 7 year old son all have joined. Over the last 7 months Susan feels stronger, better at skipping and better at jump roping too. When asked about Velocity, Susan says she likes that the coaches know her and push her. She also likes that she can work out with her husband and Eddie, family bonding in a healthy way. Susan is a hard worker, doesn't complain and is always smiling and happy which is why she has been chosen the October Adult Athlete of the Month. Chris "The Cheese" Cheeseman - Youth
Chris is 11 years old and is an A+ student at Lady of Mercy in Park Ridge and someday would like to be an architect or engineer. Chris is a busy guy. He plays offense in soccer, right field in baseball, is a blue belt in karate and is also an actor. He actually just got a part as the wizard in The Wiz at St. Joe's High School. His favorite sport is soccer and last year he scored 2 goals in an Arsenal tournament to win the game 2-0. At Velocity, Chris likes when the class does parachutes and says he still has fun while getting a good workout in. He has been coming here for about 3 months and has noticed increased speed in soccer and more strength behind his hits in baseball. Chris is very enthusiastic, gives it his all and is very supportive of other athletes in the class which is why he is our October Youth Athlete of the Month.
Jimmy Fava - D1
Jimmy is a 12 year old who attends Village School in Waldwick. He is a great student and his favorite subject is history. He also plans on attending college and already has his eye on UVM or Colby. Jimmy plays middie on lacrosse and skis the slalom GS and super G races most of the time at Stratton in Vermont. Last year he made the Southern Vermont State Team and also raced very well at Okemo. Jimmy also likes to ride his dirt bike on the 5 acres his family owns near the Ramapo Mountains. His favorite part of his Velocity workouts is doing back squats. After training with us for about 5 months, he states that he feels faster and stronger and they anxiously await ski season and lacrosse season to see how his hard work affects his sports. Jimmy's gives 110% in his workouts, listens well and has a great attitude which is why he is October's D1 Athlete of the Month.
Ryan Levine - D2
Ryan is a 17 year old at St. Joseph's High School in Montvale. Ryan gets great grades in school and his favorite subject this year is accounting. He is a catcher for his baseball team and has already signed to play for the University of Virginia where he plans to become a physical therapist or an athletic trainer. He is an outstanding catcher and lettered as a freshman, was All-County as a sophomore, and is looking to play in the major leagues after college. Most of his time is spent playing sports and working out but when he can he likes to take a day to go fishing with his grandfather. Ryan has been training with Velocity for about a year and a half and says he is much faster now and more explosive due to his training. Ryan's great work ethic and outstanding achievements are some reasons why he is our October D2 Athlete of the Month.
