    AOTM

    Caren Kern - Adult
KernCaren has just turned 44 and is currently the Trip Director for Blue Rill Day Camp.  She graduated from Oneonta University in NY where she met her husband Doug who she convinced to join her at Velocity after she started over a year ago.  They have 3 children, Sara who is 14 and Ben & Leah are 11.  Caren likes to play tennis and makes time to walk her dog every day.  She also likes to cheer on her kids at their games.  Sara is on the Y dance team, Leah plays on the girl's female LAX team and Ben is on the Mahwah Jr. Football white team.  When asked about Velocity, Caren says she loves not knowing what she's going to do next and that keeps her coming back even though she still gets sore even after working out here for more than a year!  Caren's commitment and tremendous progress in her workouts has earned her the September Adult Athlete of the Month.

    Aurora Freedman - Youth
AuroraAurora is 11 years old and attends Holdrum Middle School in Rivervale, NJ.  She does well in all her subjects but math seems to be her favorite.  Aurora also plays softball, soccer and basketball.  Softball is her favorite where she stands out as a pitcher.  One of her favorite moments she recalls was in July when she pitched 9 straight innings, the score was tied 5-5 with 2 outs.  It was a nail bitter as the other team ended up hitting a double to win but even with the loss, Aurora was proud she pitched about 120 pitches and struck out 10 that game.  At 11 years old, Aurora isn't thinking too much about college yet but is considering Rutgers since both her parents went there.  At Velocity, her favorite workout is when they play wall ball.  She has been coming here for about 10 months and has seen many improvements to her athleticism including running faster, more power behind her windmill pitch and she's much better at push ups.  Aurora's commitment and good attitude secured her September's Youth Athlete of the Month.

    Freddie DeVivo - D1
FreddieFreddie just turned 12 years old and moved up to our d1 program after being in our youth program for 3 months.  He attends Suffern Middle School where he is on honor roll.  Freddie has a passion for technology and is also thinking about becoming an architect when he gets older.  When he is not making imovies at home, Freddie is a goalie in soccer for the Ramapo Valley Soccer Club.  His favorite part of his Velocity workouts is doing the acceleration workouts.  He states that he definitely has improved his soccer game since working out here and feels faster and stronger.  Freddie's good work ethic and fast improvements not only moved him up to the D1 level but also got him September's D1 Athlete of the Month.

    Nicole DeVivo - D2
NicoleNicole goes to Suffern High School and is 16 years old.  She is on honor roll there and her favorite subjects are English and History.  She plays soccer year round as a goalie.  Nicole is already racking up the awards by receiving MVP on her high school team in her freshman year, being captain of the J.V. team her sophomore year and receiving the coaches award as well.  Nicole aspires to be a child psychologist when she gets older and when not playing soccer, she likes to go shopping and hang out with her friends.  She has been coming to Velocity for 3 months and informs us that although she doesn't like the bungie workouts, she does like getting filmed and laughing at the camera.  She credits her Velocity workouts for making her preseason much easier since she "would have died in preseason if she hadn't worked out with us over the summer".  She feels faster, stronger and in better shape.  Nicole's positive attitude on and off the field and pushing herself to get better is why she is our September D2 Athlete of the Month.
