July 08

Angela Clarkin - Adult Angela is a 48 year old graduate from Fairfield University and currently lives with her family here in Mahwah. She has been training with us for almost 2 years and has seen a lot of improvement. Since training here, she has lost weight and the training has emotionally and physically strengthened her health. Angela's favorite part of her Velocity workout would be the slide boards. However, she doesn't dislike anything about her workout because she enjoys the variety of training involved with each workout. Angela is the President of the Mahwah Schools Foundation. This organization has raised a significant amount of money by hosting a variety of events, including a golf tournament, a 5-10K run, a gala, and corporate development programs. In her spare time, Angela likes to cook and entertain. Additionally, she enjoys reading when she has the time. She is currently trying to take up golf as her new hobby.
Jack Koch - Youth
Jack is an eleven-year-old resident of New City, NY and currently attends Link Elementary School. While he maintains a straight A average at school he also plays two sports: football and baseball. In football, he plays either defensive or offensive tackle. And in baseball, he is in the outfield or at second base. His proudest moment while playing baseball was hitting a three run triple in the Championship game this year. In Jack's spare time, he likes to play video games and spend time with friends. He plans to attend Don Bosco Prep for his high school education and then he is looking at Notre Dame for college. Jack wants to become a professional football player when he grows up. He's been training at Velocity for six months. His favorite routines during his Velocity work out are the inchworm push ups and working with the parachutes. Since working out at Velocity, Jack feels that he has become a faster runner and has improved his agility. Jack's hard work and consistent effort make him a great fit for July's Youth Athlete of the Month.
Rae Caliento - D1
Rae, a thirteen-year-old veteran at Velocity, has been training with us for four months. Her favorite part about her Velocity work out is everything but the inchworm pushup. Since working out at Velocity, Rae has noticed that she has gotten a lot faster. She also notices she has better form when running and jumping. Her mom looks forward to seeing how her newfound speed affects Rae's upcoming basketball season. Rae currently attends Eric S. Smith School in Ramsey where she maintains honor roll and exhibits a strong liking for English. She plays two sports: basketball and softball. In softball, she pitches, plays first base, or sometimes plays in the outfield. She illustrates her versatility by playing all positions on the basketball court. One of her proudest moments was when she made the school basketball team as a sixth grader, which is very rare. Her proudest moment in softball was winning three championship games. Her travel team also won last year's championship game. Rae plans on furthering her education in college, possibly becoming a nurse. Rae's commitment to her goals and good attitude wins her the title of July's D1 Athlete of the Month.
Ken Maguire - D2
Ken is a 16 year old attending Ramapo High School here in Mahwah. Ken is doing great with his grades, taking honor classes and Advanced Placement classes, his favorite subject being math. He is planning on going to college when he graduates and is considering Penn State. Ken plays defense on his hockey teams and is currently on a AAA hockey team at the Ice House called the Avalanche. When thinking about all the great moments in his hockey career so far, the one that sticks out in his mind was his very first game for the Avalanche when he was just 8 years old. It was the first game he ever played and he scored the first goal of the game. This solidified his love for the sport. His dad attributes Ken's move into the AAA from the A and AA to his training at Velocity. He's been coming here almost a year now and Ken says he feels faster and all around stronger. His favorite part of working out here is the weight training. Ken's hard work ethic and commitment is why he was chosen the July D2 Athlete of the Month.
