The Story of the Honeyguide
|
Our periodic email newsletter is named after the Greater
Honey Guide, a bird that has developed the remarkable habit of leading
tribespeople to wild bees' nests, with the promise of honeycomb and grubs
once the humans have opened the nest and taken the honey.
The complementary
relationship shared by bird and human represents the newsletter's goal - to
periodically lead readers to new and timely bits of information about East
African wildlife, culture, and travel. |

The Cattle Bag It
a great bag for anyone carrying books, laptops, diapers, etc. It is a
life bag that will beautifully age and patina over the years.
The
Cattle Bag tells the story of the nomadic cattle herder. Cattle are
branded with traditional clan markings and when making these bags, we
try to use leather that has these symbols. Since the herders are
frequently on the move, they do not carry heavy musical instruments.
Their music consists of singing accompanied by the sound of the women
rubbing their bracelets together. So, for the cattle bag, we have
converted the women's bracelets into the metalwork on the bag.
Available in many, many colors.

Mountain Bag - edition II NEW DESIGN!! The Mountain Bag has a new look. It was designed to
emulate Mount Hanang, which sits in the heart of Barabaig lands and has
long been their spiritual peak. The Barabaig climb Hanang for prayer
and also because it's a great place to find honey. The leather has a
delightful two-toned, mottled, almost batik look. Available in 4 different colors.
This bag is flying off the shelves! Good news - I will be bringing more back from Tanzania in late November.
