Rockhaven 2012

Greetings!

Welcome to our May newsletter!

Summer camp is almost here and we are super excited to have everyone back for another great summer.  We have a great staff lined up who can't wait for camp to begin.

You probably have received our summer 2012 brochure in the mail by now and I hope you looked it over.  We have a great summer planned!  The easiest way to register is with online registration which makes managing camps and campers so much easier as well as reducing our mailing and printing cost. Registering online is a great way to help us become a more environmentally friendly organization. Also, it's important to know that our online registration is merely a reservation or pre-registration process and you won't need to pay at time of registration. Once your registration is received, you will receive a confirmation letter, remaining release forms, health form and a invoice to be submitted with payment by mail or in person. Please follow the links below to register for camp right from this newsletter.

The early bird discount deadline is fast approaching so if you would like to take advantage of this special prices register today for a Rockhaven Camp.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

This Saturday from 10-5 we will be holding our 2nd Spring Clean Up Work Day at Rockhaven. Grab a weed-eater, a paint brush, a sponge or a screw-driver, slip on your boots and come on out for the day or a couple of hours and help us get ready for our summer groups. We will have plenty of tasks to tackle rain or shine and lunch is provided.

Lastly, if you haven't already... please check out our Facebook page and "Like" us. We hope to continue improving communications this spring and summer but to do that we need your help. If you use Facebook help us spread the word about Rockhaven Camp and Retreat Center.

MIDDLE SCHOOL OPPORTUNITY!
 climbing
This year we are offering a L.I.T. program or "Leaders In Training" for campers grade 6 - 12.  This is something we've needed as more campers are wanting to return to Rockhaven in some capacity but are getting too old for day camp or elementary overnight and Jr. High Adventure is just too short!

So, we're adding this opportunity to keep you involved with Rockhaven.  This was a bit of an after-thought so you won't find it in the brochure, but if you register online LIT 1, 2, and 3 are available for registration.

These weeks coincide with our day camps which allow for campers to learn and assist our summer staff with day campers.  There will also be some program time with Scott Thrasher as well as the opportunity to stay over on Thursday night for a little summer camp fun of their own on the high ropes course. Your can register for 1 or all of these weeks.  Registration will be limited to 8 campers per week and cost $50 to cover food costs.

NOTE: This is NOT a camp program!  This is for youth who would like to serve as volunteer helpers, camp leaders and junior counselors.  This idea is in its early stages and will grow as needed.

If you have questions please contact Scott Thrasher or call 406.586.9194 Ext. 267.

Also, please notice that we have a 2 camps for older youth.  This year we are holding two 3 day camps, 1 for middle schoolers and 1 for high schoolers.  These are both going to be jammed full of activities that you won't get anywhere else.  If you haven't done the zip line or high ropes course yet... you're missing out.
Why Camp?

Physical Activity: Kids can spend a lot of time these days inside sitting, camp provides a great opportunity to get out and move.  Camp is doing... camp is action.

Build Confidence: There are endless opportunities at camp that help children build self-confidence. At camp we focus on non-competitive activities and diverse opportunities to succeed and see accomplishment every day.

Time to get "Unplugged": Kids have the opportunity to discover their creativity and engage in community when they unplug from TV, cell phone, internet and games.  Rockhaven specializes in the simple benifits that camp offers.

Develop new and lasting skills: At camp we have the right instruction, equipment and facility for kids to explore all sorts of new artistic, life and adventure skills.

Unstructured Play: Rockhaven provides a safe environment for kids to discover the fun, learning and growth that can come when we are free from overly-structured, overly-scheduled routines of home and school. Life at Rockhaven fosters an environment of peacefulness and freedom to listen to the Holy Spirit.

Live in Christian Community: Living together at camp means joining a close community where we must agree to cooperate, work and play together, love and respect each other.

Connect with Creation: Camp is an antidote to "nature deficit disorder," from the narrow experience of modern indoor life. Outdoor experience enriches our perception of the world and supports healthy development.

Make New Friends: Camp is the place where kids make their very best friends. Free from the social expectations pressuring them at school, camp encourages kids to relax and make friends easily. All the fun at camp draws everyone together- singing, laughing, talking, playing, doing almost everything together.

Meet great role models: Camp counselors at Rockhaven are trained, skilled and full of creativity and energy. They care about the experiences they are creating and have plenty of love and support to go around.
