- During the holidays, rather than trying to lose weight, just try to maintain. After all, most people gain 6 to 8 pounds from November to January. To keep your weight the same, look to tip #2.
- Unfortunately, the holidays mean more alcohol and food than usual. Before heading off to the office parties, have a bite to eat before will also reduce the likelihood of repeated trips to the snack table.
- Alcohol lowers your inhibitions and that means you will be more likely to eat poorly. Lower your alcohol consumption by alternating with water.
- Start your New Year's resolution now. Join a gym and start today.
- The cold constricts your arteries, bringing blood away from the skin's surface. For people over 40 with heart conditions, make sure to wear clothing that keeps heat in so you don't put your heart under excess stress.
- Eat several meals a day to stimulate your body's metabolism. This will also assist you in keeping that winter fat layer off and increase your energy supply.
- For fun, try a new activity. Cross-country skiing or ice-skating. And do it on a weekly basis.
- A person's body tries to maintain a core temperature of between 97 and 99 degrees. When you shiver, that's your body's way of staying warm. So when this happens, move around to help generate more warmth.
- During the winter, it is difficult to motivate yourself due to several reasons: cold, lack of light, etc. To combat this, take 5 minutes and write down two things that you want to accomplish before the New Year. (The goals you set should be measurable, such as waist or arm size).
- Get up 30 minutes early, three times a week and do some cardio to get your heart pumping and the blood flowing. To do it, you should psyche yourself up the night before and avoid hitting the snooze button.
- The holidays bring on a lot of parties and unhealthy foods. It is not necessary for you to drink and gorge at every one. Pick on or tow days or events to enjoy yourself and even then (as with every other) you should plan head to eat a healthy meal prior to the party. This way when you get there, you're not famished and you'll have enough control and will power to avoid the poppers and wings!
- If you're starting a new work out regiment, get your doctor's clearance. Take it slow (most people quit because they push too hard off the line). Find activities that you enjoy and put them into your schedule and assign them as a high priority.
- If you are too busy or too tired to fit these necessary ingredients into your life then you need to reevaluate your priorities or get involved with a fitness company that has a proven success rate to motivate and teach you how to have a healthy lifestyle.
