Keystone Computer Concepts, Inc.
Greetings!

One Day Left
These past two weeks have flown by!  But, right now, Joyce and Zeke and I are on our way home.  We'll be back sometime tomorrow!  We hope that you've had NO computer problems in our absence!

Coming back to Florida, we're mindful that we have not yet reached the peak of hurricane season.  Our Question of the Week tackles what to do about your computer(s) when bad weather threatens or strikes.  Be sure to read all about it below!

There's still time to sign up for the first of our August webinars and right now would be great time to do so.  Just scroll down under the Webinars section and follow the link.

Hope your Friday, Saturday and Sunday make for a wonderful weekend!
New!

Question Of The Week

Bad weather
Question:  "In the event of a hurricane, flood, snowstorm and/or other natural disaster, what should I do regarding my computer?"
Answer:  There are two sets of variables which directly affect how we answer this question.  We'll cover all the angles, so please read on!

The first variable in our response this week is:  Do you own a desktop, laptop, netbook, tablet or combination of some or all?  The second variable is: are you going to ride out the hurricane (or other event) in your home or business or are you going to seek shelter elsewhere?

Let's divide our answers based on the variables, starting with the second one:
You are going to seek shelter elsewhere:
If you own only a laptop, netbook or tablet, the answer is easy - take it with you.  Be sure you take the power cord, though; otherwise, you might run out of battery power should you actually get to use your portable computer while you're remaining safe from the weather.

If you own only a desktop computer, you should take at least the tower with you.  You should pack the tower in your car as securely as you can so that the tower doesn't move all over the place as you're driving.  Remember, a tower is not really built to be portable so it's important to handle it with care.

You are going to ride out the storm at home:
If you own a laptop, netbook and/or tablet but not a desktop, you should make sure the computer's battery is fully charged before the storm actually hits.  This way, you'll have a few hours of battery time before the computer actually dies, assuming the power is out for an extended period of time.  Please note:  if you get online wirelessly through a home router, you may not be able to get online unless you have battery backup for your modem and router.

If you own a desktop only, you will have some available time if the power goes out assuming you have your computer plugged into an Uninterruptible Power Supply.  (Of course, if you're a Keystone Computer Concepts customer, you understand the importance of having a desktop plugged into a UPS, right?  If not, please click HERE.)

If you own both a desktop and a portable computer, you should follow both sets of instructions.

Final thought:  Whether it's a hurricane, a snow storm, flood waters or a hard drive failure, besides moving your computers to safety or "counting on luck," you should always have redundant backups of all your important documents, pictures and music.  Since it is often cumbersome, during an emergency, to take external hard drives, DVD and CD backups, etc., off-site backups are always a good idea. If you aren't already using online backup, we highly recommend that you start using it today!  You can get a 15 day free trial of the online backup software we use by clicking HERE.
