Greetings!

Long Island Railroad
Yes, our vacation continues!  We hope all is well and that you're not having any problems with your computer.  Remember, we'll be returning August 4, 2012.  In the meantime, however, if you haven't done so yet, you can still download our Vacation Survival Kit.  You'll find all kinds of information about things to do/try if you're having a computer issue.  Get it now by clicking HERE.

Even though we're not in the office, we still want to share a Question of the Week with you.  You'll find it below.

If you haven't done so already, now is a great time to sign up for one or both of our August webinars.  You can read all about them below!

Just a reminder: we share lots of computer news in our blog.  Please consider visiting our blog and signing up for the RSS feed to keep you apprised of new posts.

Question Of The Week

Email hacked
Question:  "I just received a strange-sounding email from a friend.  It had a lot of people in the TO: field but in the email itself, there was just a link.  When I clicked on the link, my anti-virus sounded an alarm and told me there was malicious software on the webpage and that I shouldn't go there.  Did my friend's computer get hacked?"

Answer:  This type of problem is so wide-spread right now, it's not even funny.  This is even happening to some of our customers, despite our warnings, blogs and tutorials.

While it is possible that the computer of the friend mentioned in the question has been hacked, it is far more likely that the person's email account has been compromised, instead.  Hacked email accounts are on the incline because of two reasons: 1) hackers' software is getting better; and, 2) computer users continue to break all the rules regarding passwords - they use passwords with whole words, they use the same password for everything, etc.  If you haven't read our blog about this, I recommend that you take a few minutes and read it now.  You'll find it HERE.

As for the person whose email account got hacked, in the question above, the first thing he or she should do is to log into his or her email account and change the password - using a strong password as we outline in our blog.

If you receive an email like in our customer's question, you should call or text the person (rather than email a reply) and suggest to them that he or she changes the password.  If someone calls you and tells you they've received an email like this from you, then you should immediately change your email password.

In most cases, changing the password to something secure will do the trick.  If it doesn't, you should call us.  (Remember, we'll be back from vacation on August 4, 2012!)

Just a reminder that we love to find special savings which we can pass on to you.  Some of the specials we offer last only three days!  (You know, we only affiliate ourselves with companies we use and/or trust.)  We want to help you save money by buying online where savings are often at their best.  Here's what we've done:  1)  We've revamped our Specials Page. 2)  We've added an RSS feed so you don't have to go to the page everyday - you can go there when you see something in the RSS feeds that peeks your interest.  You can sign up for the feed by clicking HERE.
