livedeadlogosmallerLIVE DEAD:
A Note for Note Recreation of Grateful Dead's "Workingman's Dead" & "American Beauty" Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Both Albums

Presented by: Count Basie Theatre

Saturday, October 30, 2010, 8:00 PM

In just 9 months of 1970, the Grateful Dead recorded and released their 4th and 5th studio albums, Workingman's Dead and American Beauty. Featuring 18 songs like "Uncle John's Band," "Casey Jones" "Box of Rain," "Friend of the Devil," "Sugar Magnolia," "Ripple," "Brokedown Palace," and "Truckin'," they fused rock, blues, bluegrass, folk and especially country music, changing the direction of the band, and popular music overall away from psychedelia toward a traditional acoustic sound.

Guitarist Marc Muller directs a song-by-song celebration featuring special guests Chris Barron (Spin Doctors) and Buddy Cage (New Riders of the Purple Sage), plus the Live Dead Band including John Merjave from the Beatles band Liverpool; singer-songwriter and former Relix recording artist Jonah Smith; Trenton-based guitarist Scott Rednor; drummer Dave Anthony and percussionist Brian Kollins.

Tickets: $39.50, $29.50, $19.50

Featuring Jimmy Cobb and the So What Band
Presented by: Count Basie Theatre

Sunday, February 13, 2011, 3:00 PM

If you own just one jazz record, Kind of Blue is the one. If you attend just one jazz concert this year, this is the one! 2009 marked the 50th Anniversary of Miles Davis' album Kind Of Blue. Released in 1959, its new and spontaneous musical language stunned the world. Its influence goes far beyond jazz; it's both the best selling jazz album ever, and #12 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Albums of All Time. Drummer and NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Cobb, the only surviving member from the original recording, leads an all-star band performing all five of Kind of Blue's masterpieces, including "So What," "Freddie Freeloader," "Blue in Green," "All Blues" and "Flamenco Sketches," plus other classics.

Presented by: Count Basie Theatre

Friday, February 11, 2011, 8:00 PM

Join the Italian-American tenor who can sing it all, from the heroic volleys of Puccini's "Nessun dorma," to the tender phrases of "O Sole Mio," for his full orchestra tribute to love! Blessed with movie-star looks, charm, and a classic Italian tenor voice, The New York Times declared that this, "Swashbuckling Italian tenor exhibits both the voice and charisma of a crossover star". He sang for Pope John Paul II, for Luciano Pavarotti, and has appeared in opera houses worldwide, as well as at The Sands in Atlantic City, the Algonquin Hotel, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and Shea Stadium, where he sang the national anthem during the 2000 playoffs. Says Amante, "I love being the tenor in the opera, but it's a very small world. I want to share this beautiful music with everyone."
