Why Did the Earthquake Happen?

When tragedy strikes, we struggle with the big "why" question: Why did this happen? And in most cases, there is no answer. Bad things happen. People we love get sick. Earthquakes happen. For Christians, we turn the question to GodLink

 When to adopt New Technology

The church I attend finally took the plunge last fall: our newsletter now comes by e-mail. Budget cuts made what had been unthinkable seem plausible. But plausible is not the same as right. How can we evaluate the costs and benefits of using new technologies to make sure we adopt the right ones at the right moment? Link

AUDITIONS: The Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir

MASLC is a Christ-centered ministry, devoted to preaching the gospel to high school students and providing an experience of music and Christian community, described above by two students from MASLC 2009. Auditions for this intensive summer choral experience are being held at sites across Minnesota throughout February. Please encourage high school singers in your congregation to audition. Complete information may be found at the website: Link

Sara's Corner
Wonderful Worship in Smaller Churches
David Ray, a UCC pastor who has written several small-church books, takes the first half of this book to outline twelve principles for understanding worship in churches of fewer than one hundred people.   For example, "Most folks in smaller churches would rather folk dance than watch a ballet."  This principle is about expectation and active involvement.  Ray incorporates his principles into practice in the second half of the book. It seems that his experience may have been in places where there is a choice between joining a small congregation or one that is much larger.  But much of what he says rings true even for places where a small congregation is the only option!  Call the Resource Service Center (sara.johnson@swmnelca.org) if you would like to borrow this book..
