Leaders:
  • Do you have vision? Can you articulate it to the people whom you lead? Do you share it often?
  • Do you have courage? The courage to stand tall when the wind isn't blowing your way?
  • Does your team, academic department, group or organization move forward with clarity? coherence?
  • What wicked problem keeps you up at night? What are you doing about it....to move forward?

Leaders that are effective know their competencies, know their weaknesses. They tap into huge courage. They deal with trouble when it happens. They lead with certainty.

  • The very essence of leadership is that you have and embrace a vision. It's got to be a vision you articulate clearly and forcefully on every occasion. You can't blow an uncertain trumpet. ~~Theodore Hesburgh~~

"Wicked problem" is a term used to describe a problem that is difficult or impossible to solve because of incomplete, contradictory, and changing requirements that are often difficult to recognize. Moreover, because of complex interdependencies, the effort to solve one aspect of a wicked problem may reveal or create other problems. Sometimes part of trying to solve a wicked problem involves the same people who are creating it.

Is your organization or academic arena experiencing "wicked problems"? Do things keep resurfacing? Do issues seem to just recycle? Do you think you just resolved something, only to find that it has raised up to the forefront again?

At the Center for Self-Organizing Leadership, we are experts at helping Leaders lift up and address the recurring, complex, wicked problems that tend to cripple organizations. These are the type of problems, which when allowed to continue to fester, erode the effectiveness of organizations, teams, and groups.

At the Center for Self-Organizing Leadership, we help Leaders to learn how to resolve complex problems using a proprietary process that is rooted in Complexity Science.

Call 716-622-6467. Tell us about your "wicked problem"!

That's a poignant question and observation noted by Dr. Margaret J. Wheatley. In her book "Finding Our Way--Leadership For an Uncertain Time" (c) 2005, she underscores that organizations and institutions can achieve a balance for meeting and exceeding business objectives while having an environment for nourishing the human spirit and developing the potency of people. Dr. Wheatley lifts up as vital a strong and successful type of leadership that focuses on Information--as the medium of the organization, on Identity--as the sense-making capacity of the organization, and Relationship--as the path-making capacity of the organization. (These three domains are the mainstays of Self-Organizing Leadership.)
