How many writers can say, "Robert Altman produced and directed two of my screenplays."?
ANSWER:
Just one, ANNE RAPP.

Altman's vision and skill brought and/or contributed to the success of a number of women in the business.
He directed six actresses in Oscar-nominated performances, and two others won Best Actress Awards at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. One of the latter was Houston's own Shelley Duvall for her performance in "3 Women." Ms. Duvall, as you know, got her start in Altman's film "Brewster McCloud."
Altman has taken us from a most hilarious and satirically sharp, predominently male venue, the military, all the way to some of the best female characters in film - two of the best being written by
Anne Rapp.
Altman has shown that a truly creative and aware director can reveal things about all of us, men and women alike, through cinema. Whether writing or directing, it's all about observation and caring about all the wonderful variations found in humanity.

She has worked with many acclaimed directors including Judd Apatow, Harold Ramis, Jake Kasdan, Lawrence Kasdan, Sydney Pollack, Robert Benton, Bruce Beresford, Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemekis, David Mamet, Ken Kwapis, Rob Reiner, Bill Forsythe, and Tom Hanks. She began writing short stories in the mid-90s, which led to a job writing for Robert Altman. Mr. Altman put her under contract for three years and directed two of her original screenplays, COOKIE'S FORTUNE and DR. T AND THE WOMEN." Altman also directed a television episode written by Ms. Rapp for the ABC series "Gun," entitled "All the President's Women."
The screenplay for COOKIE'S FORTUNE earned Anne an Independent Spirit Award nomination in 1999, as well as an Edgar Allen Poe nomination. In 2002, she wrote a television special for CMT, a live Texas music variety show called "Stars Over Texas," hosted by Ray Benson and featuring Dolly Parton and Vince Gill. In 2005, she teamed up with Benson again and co-wrote the musical, "A Ride with Bob," a stage performance about the life and legacy of Bob Wills.
Anne is currently in Alaska working on the Universal movie, EVERYBODY LOVES WHALES. She is also directing and producing a documentary about legendary Texas playwright Horton Foote.
