WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND
Want to simply make movies, or be in the film business? If you are serious about asking investors for money to finance your filmmaking endeavors, show them that you have not only a story that will appeal to audiences, but a solid business plan for managing the life cycle of your project(s).
If you want to cash in on the potential of the $8 billion independent film market, be part of this special seminar given by Louise Levison, creator of the business plan for the wildly successful low-budget film, The Blair Witch Project. In this 2-1/2 hour class, Levison will take the mystique out of film financing and writing a winning business plan. From the executive summary to the financial projections, you will learn how to research, organize, and present your case to investors.
Topics include:
Filmmakers as entrepreneurs
Clarifying objectives and responsibilities
What investors look for in a business plan
Knowing what to include and not include
Homing in on market segments and marketing
Distribution channels and distributor strategies
Developing assumptions and projections for revenue,
costs, profit, and cash flow

PARKING AT RICE SATURDAY AND SUNDAY |
Parking is available in the visitor lot #5 behind the police stations for $3 per hour (with a maximum fee of $10/day) and must be paid with a credit card. You may park for $3 all day at the Greenbriar lot located off Greenbriar next to the football stadium, but there's a bit of a walk to the Media Center. For a map of the campus and further parking instructions, go to http://studioart.rice.edu/Content.aspx?id=174. You may park free along the streets of the neighborhood across University Blvd., but be mindful of the parking signs. We don't want anyone towed. Occasionally (we never know when) the gates of the parking lots will be up. If that is the case, you may park in any of those lots free of charge. But it's always good to be prepared to pay.

| A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM WIFT'S PRESIDENT |
|
She's back!!! One hundred and thirteen members of the Houston filmmaking community met Ms. Levison in Houston in 2002 for TALA's Texas Filmmaking Institute, which I had the pleasure of co-chairing with attorney Jamie Baker. Louise was simply incredible, and the hour allotted for her presentation was simply not enough for her newly found devotees. The one complaint expressed time and time again about the 2002 seminar was that Louise Levison should have had much more time for her presentation. It's been too long since that last appearance in Houston, and that's about to be fixed. If you heard her then, you finally have that opportunity to hear more. If you missed her, don't let it happen this time. She is truly the filmmakers' best friend. Heed her advice and you'll be ready to seek financing like the professional you'll need to be.
