The Houston Film Critics Society, founded in 2007, will announce its 2008 Film Awards in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's Brown Auditorium Theater at 4:00 PM, on Saturday, December 20. Fifteen categories include Best Picture and Performance awards, Ensemble Acting, Cinematography, and Score awards, an Honorary Texan award, and an Achievement for Local Cinema award. Will it be theses? Maybe, maybe not. Come find out if Houston's critics pick your favorites; see clips with discussion about MUST SEE movies this holiday season.
Marian Luntz, MFAH Film Curator and WIFT Houston member, had this to say about the upcoming ceremony, "The Houston Film Critics Society is an important part of Houston's film culture, and the working critics continually spark fresh debates about contemporary and classic cinema. As 2008 comes to a close, this is the perfect time to reflect on a year of movies and showcase the best films of the year. It's also a great opportunity to have personal picks firmly in mind, in advance of the Oscars in February."
Jolene McMaster, President of WIFT Houston, adds, "In our collective efforts to develop Houston's film scene, this event is important and worthy of your support. The Dallas/Ft. Worth Film Critics Association was founded in 1990. The Houston Film Critics Society is barely a year old. Houston Cinema Arts Society is not yet a year old. These latest efforts from two new organizations will be very important in helping us all to further Houston's and Texas' common goals toward FILM HOUSTON and FILM TEXAS."
We'd like to see each of you at this event. The event will be in the Caroline Wiess Law Building, 1001 Bissonnet Street in Houston.
