You'll be pleased to see that we've made it through February without sending you any pictures of love hearts, roses or chocolates to try and warm your cockles or perhaps make you reach for a bucket - and I suspect the latter may have been more likely.

Robert's latest speaking topic, The Role of Sex in Success had it's first airing this month but this was completely co-incidental as its a topic which should be relevant every working day of the year.

He had great fun working on it although it soon became apparent that nearly everything you say on an everyday basis could be misinterpreted depending on the thought train of your audience and some were perhaps a little more fearful of the topic than they should be. As the saying goes "love is all around us"  just like business!

We've shared some of the highlights below but the best way to see the live and un-cut version is to contact Bella.

Sex in Business

R speaking

The first outing for this topic was to a packed audience at Cook's Barn, Near Bottisham as part of a series organised by The Inspired Group run by Ann Hawkins.

She said: "Robert used metaphor and strong images to illustrate his points and it was an interesting insight into how basic human instincts can be used to commercial advantage. The feedback showed how thought provoking it was in terms of how businesses can improve the way they interact with their customers to make them feel a little more loved in the morning."

Robert illustrated that sex is all around us and can be used to a positive effect to motivate and drive us to be more creative and determined in a business context.

He said: "We all enjoy innuendo and if something makes you smile you often remember it well.  Stiff Nipples Air Conditioning Service is a classic example - it suggests benefit as well as being memorable."

He continued: "It can work the other way though.  Businesses need to think carefully about their branding. When Pen Island set up a domain name without using any hyphens or underscores it may have confused a few people."

He really hits the spot

Tea

Since last month we've had the largest number of sign ups to this ezine yet.  This was largely due to a hugely successful talk in Leeds for Business Link Yorkshire on Why Social Enterprises are Tomorrow's Enterprises.  So we'd like to extend a warm welcome to the Yorkshire contingent who clearly think that Robert reaches the parts other speakers don't and really hits the spot.

Robert's talk was a fast moving, light hearted session which highlighted the opportunities facing today's social entrepreneurs.

He also talked about why social enterprise is going to grow and what the customer appeal is; the balance between passion and practicality and how to balance the two. He finished with his top tips on running a successful social enterprise.

Here's some of the feedback from the day:

"I like Robert - he's a human-scale entrepreneur on a talk-circuit dominated by supposedly super-human entrepreneurs who most of it find hard to relate to. He talks a lot of sense."

Rob Greenland

"I was really moved by your drive, the information you provided for the group last night and your extremely witty presentation."

Dr Mah Hussain-Gambles

"I just wanted to let you know how inspirational we found your talk.  We all said how re-energised we felt by the time we left after hearing your presentation - so thanks for galvanising us!"

Mary Lindley

"Thanks again for last night. Vernon and I both feel that the evening was very successful and the client feedback was extremely positive.

Example delegate comments were:

  • useful information - good positive energy
  • all brilliant, thank you
  • very motivational
  • real life experience - 100% more useful and plausable than a trainer."
