Is there anyone there?

Life as an enterprise missionary can at times be like staging a séance. You've battled to get all the right people round the table, but they need a lot of persuading to allow anything new to be added to their agenda. If only the budding entrepreneurs we're trying to encourage could tap under the table at the right moment we'd all know what is really needed.

But as many of you know, getting people to come to events, complete surveys or seek advice can be like waking the dead. One reason is that there are lots of people competing for their attention. Another is that inertia and fear of change holds people back. But you don't need a crystal ball to see that tomorrow's successful business will look very different from today's. Let's take control; let's do something!

I'll make it well worth your while

We're working with Enterprise UK to organise a series of thought provoking, free to attend events for people contemplating starting a business. You'll hear from people who have done it, gain valuable tips from business experts and meet advisers from your local Enterprise Agency who can help you take the next steps.

You'll also get one year's FREE subscription to
Kashflow worth £200. Anyone visiting their website can get a free two month trial of their excellent, easy to use online accounting software. People who sign up for and attend one of our events will get a further ten months free - that's worth £200.

So if you're interesting in starting a business, or know someone who is, then click reply telling us where you are and we'll send you details of your nearest event.

There are only two big challenges facing every new business. One is finding customers and the other is managing your cashflow. This series of events will help you with both. You'll hear how to find your first customers and leave with a year's free subscription to the easiest to use online accounting software. So click
REPLY and let's get you along to one of these super events.

And say it like it is

confused

I'm starting a collection of meaningless jargon.

Most of it seems to emerge in the public sector, from where it can rapidly spread to confuse us all. My favourite examples this week came in an email to me from a High School. 'We're having a collapsed timetable day when my colleague, XXX XXXXX, is running a careers carousel.' Do you know what it means because I certainly don't!

Send me your favourite examples and I'll share the best with you all next month.

Got time for a 45 minute business boot camp?

 bootcamp

Knowing how people are time poor and ideas hungry, I've condensed my popular three month business boot camp programmer into just 45 minutes. The very first of these takes place at FOOTSEY 2009, the UK's leading social enterprise event in Doncaster this Thursday. It's going to be fast, furious and fiercely interactive.

There's even a worksheet that will prompt you to do what you've promised when you get back to work the next day.

To find out more, come along on Thursday or email Bella and she'll send you details

How would you like to grow your reputation?

Bella

We've been quietly building a team of PR professionals here. Bella has six years PR experience, specialising in tourism, B2B and events. Lucy is currently working with us part time whilst researching her Masters in Business Journalism and Jess has just joined the team as our apprentice. She's an ace researcher, able to winkle out the information and people we need to make your story a big story.

It's part of my strategy here to make Turnpike Farm, where I live and we all work, a place where we grow reputations, cultivate new ideas and enable our clients to harvest a healthy crop of new business.

I've had to promise not to interfere too much, having been told my creative and innovative ideas will be welcome, but please don't start confusing the press!

So if you want a PR service that is practical, measurable and affordable (rather than the usual air kisses and vague promises others may offer) give Bella call on 01953 605000 or click
reply.

Words of wisdom

"Nothing travels faster than light, with the possible exception of bad news, which follows its own rules"
Douglas Adams

There's no such thing as 'no comment' as Gordon Brown found out last week when he decided not to reveal his favourite biscuit brand to Mumsnet. Not only did the press hammer him for keeping the secret, but someone leaked the fact that he loves Kit-Kats. My tip: take control of your PR - or do what I do and let Bella manage it for you!

I send out a monthly ezine to everyone who finds it useful. If you'd like to receive a copy, you need do nothing. If you'd rather not, please click on the link below to unsubscribe
