Greetings!

Summer - Time For Business With Your Eyes Shut

There's nothing like laying on the beach, eyes closed, bathed in warm sunshine reflecting on your business performance. Just as you're about to drift off into a sleep (from which you will awaken with sunburn) the rays of pure inspiration will penetrate deep into your mind. Try it yourself if you don't believe me. All you need to do is find time, space and somewhere quiet close to the crashing waves. Remember the old adage about working on, not in, your business? Well the good news is that in my book and hopefully yours, working on the business can involve days on the beach - especially now I've told you why!

Summer is also a valuable time to re-balance your life, take a step back and see the bigger picture - what you are working for, how you're doing it, if it's delivering the lifestyle you'd like to have and taking you where you want to go. How does your partner see it too?

Remember that divorce is one of the biggest causes of business failure. Work at every aspect of your life, not just your business. Another good reason to head to the seaside.

Then, when you get back to your workshop, office or spare bedroom you have to remember what you've decided to do differently, then take the plunge and actually do it. Remember that 90% of success is the result of persistent activity. Do it now!

Summer Promotion at W H Smith Travel

Right now, with job security a worry in many heads, even more people than usual will take the plunge and starting a business. It's like having a baby in many ways, natural yet complicated. So much to learn and do. You start the journey knowing that millions of others have trodden the same path.

My latest book demystifies starting an enterprise. It takes you step by step through the process from planning to birth and beyond into growth and sustainability. WH Smith Travel will be stocking it front of store in airports, railway stations and at motorway services. Your opportunity to pick up a copy to read on that beach!

One of the most popular elements of the book will be the 30 or so real life case studies; people who have done it already and willingly shared the experiences with me as I researched and wrote the book.

I'll also be speaking about the book at a number of events around the UK, so you can meet me and hear more about it there.

However if like me you like to plan ahead, you can pre-order the book at a generous 45% discount from Amazon today!

There's nothing sinister about being left handed!

The fact is that left handed people are different and we should all celebrate the fact. They tend to be more creative for one thing. Another fact is that because the world assumes us all to be right handed, from a very early age we have to challenge that preconception and say no thanks, I'd like to do it this way.

Arguably left handedness is one of the last areas of discrimination to be addressed by society. From cheque books to car park ticket machines, toilet flush handles to promotional mugs and pens, everything is designed for the right handed person.

At a recent meeting at my publishers four of the authors of the first wave of 'For Entrepreneur' titles got together. I was not surprised to find that the only one of us who was right handed was the guy who'd written the book on accounts. The rest of us were left handed.

That experience, where 75% of us were left handed (against a 10% average in the population at large) led me to think that maybe there's an opportunity to put together some business start-up and growth programmes specifically for left handed entrepreneurs. After all, Henry Ford, Bill Gates, Benjamin Britten and Bart Simpson all challenged the world using their left hand.

What do you think? Are you left handed and looking for something specifically for you?
Let me know and let's see what we can do!

I'm listening - please say something!

We live in an era where increasingly providers of any product or service listen and respond to their customers. It's the only way to know what people want and as I'm constantly telling the people I work with, why guess when you can ask!

Listening

So for the first time, here's your opportunity to tell us exactly what you think, what you'd like and perhaps even what you'd like to challenge (or even dare) me to do!

As added incentive, the first five out of the hat at the end of the month will win a signed copy of the book of their choice from the nine I've now written.
