How Victorian values helped socially construct a belief that women should not participate in sport

Hi Mike & Ian, I really enjoyed this Unit, as this one really helped me start pulling the previous ones together.

Also, I was wondering if you could point me towards any additional reading (or studies) with regard to the negative affect of being female has on recovery.

Here's why...

As a former sport history student, I am aware of the vital energy theory etc, and how Victorian values helped socially construct a belief that women should not participate in sport (because it was dangerous) but instead be spectators for male exhaltation-- a belief that was given force by a mostly male medical authority, and later with events like the women's 800m in Amsterdam 1928.

I'm wondering whether this paradigm is now scientifically supported or if it's still largely historically based?
-- Dale

Dale - Great to hear the value you are getting out of the course including units such as unit 8

Great to see you also understand the impact of long held social values on perceptions

You may also want to reflect on your word selection - "...with regard to the negative affect of being female has on recovery."

You appear to be endorsing the assumption.

I am not able to guide you to any specific writings re this but do encourage you to develop your own real-world way of assessing theories and forming your own beliefs

If you hang around KSI education longer, this will become not only more clear to you but also more automatic

I was somewhat disappointed by the forum

Hi, Honestly, I will admit that I was somewhat disappointed by the forum of King Sports International. All the questions I have asked so far have been answered by other questions. I understand that the purpose of this is to make me think and it's a good thing.  However, I believe it is overly used.

Sometimes, I would ask a simple question like: Should I calculate precisely the rest time between my sets or should I go approximately. The answer I got was: What do you think is best according to your experience ? If I am asking the question, it's because I don't know the answer.

The purpose of me asking this question is to avoid having to learn through ''trial and error'' using the experience of other. I think giving a straight answer for this question would have been appropriate. Sometimes I think it would help if the coaches would answer with ''real answer''.

Appreciate your feedback. I also appreciate the time my coaches and other forum members have put in to respond to you.  They are working along the  line of my teachings, all at different levels, naturally. I value their support and contribution

I understand that our way may not suit you, and I am confident there will be no shortage of other service providers / other forum that would only ever provide you with the type of answers you are looking for when you pose your question. Can I assist you opt of the forum? Again, appreciate you sharing your thoughts

Spiritual Development and KSI

There was an excellent exchange on the KSI Forum recently in the Spiritual Development section (I will leave you to read it yourself), to which I have added:

Excellent exchange! And great contribution thanks Tim!!!

As Mitchell has alluded to, the forum content balance (as defined by %age of posts or total words) is more reflective to what we believe the average 'student' on the forum is ready for than what occurs in high level KSI education

I am of the firm belief that where KSI is in this area is as where our strictly physical preparation has always been - light years ahead of what others in this industry are doing or even able to comprehend. After all, some are still attempting to imitate my published works from the 1990s!

As again Mitchell alluded to, I don't release in public domain the full extent of my philosophies as I believe that optimal teaching occurs when the student is ready, and one cannot gauge that from an interaction-less discourse in text or DVD

Additionally, I am too busy learning and doing and lack the motivation to commercialize for short term profit every aspect and every level of my experience and competencies.

However, in person, at our seminar and annual coach education, you will see things that are not taught in our publications, in part because we are not sure how to optimally do so yet, in part because as I said the student is of an unknown state of readiness, and again as I said because I don't feel the need to sensationalized and commercialize every level of our learning's. And to add to that, I only provide public domain education from a point of mastery, unlike some who I have observed - a student one year, 17 years of industry experience and internationally renown 2 and a half years later.

I released my first public commercial educational material some 17 years after formally commencing my personal journey in the education of myself as a physical preparation coach, and after working with athletes in four consecutive Olympic Games (as opposed having had limited experience yet names dropping a medallist's name in seminar hoping that no-one would research to find out that if the claim was true, or realize I was in nappies when the athlete won their medal and the only hope I could have of sharing some of the credit might have been the high levels of gases I was contributing to the atmosphere from my baby butt - and nothings changed now it is just coming from my mouth.... - yes, I am referring to a real life example...)

So give me a few more years as a student in the areas I am teaching quietly to my top coaches in our intense training camps, and I may feel more inclined to show the 'balance' in publications that the 'average' person may belief is 'right'.

A your getting buffed book has no pictures, I feel a little wary of buying it

Hi, I bought your book of muscle about 6months ago. Just finishing off the beginner part and must say love it. I think I've read it at least 3 times and have stuck to the beginner program.

I got a little bit curious about you and did some googling, obviously stumbling onto your company. There is an overwhelming array of products/books on offer and not exactly cheap. I'm thinking of continuing with the BOM intermediate program but this Getting Buffed Book does have my interest. My only concern is that I refer to the guide and picture on exercise execution a lot in the BOM, and find that incredibly useful. Seeing as your getting buffed book has no pictures, I feel a little wary of buying it to check it out.

Is there anyway a person could read a single chapter just to check it out? That's how I ended up buying the BOM, stumbled across it a Barnes and Noble, and checked it out a little and knew I'd stumbled onto something great.
--xxxx

xxxx - great to see you gained value from the BOM.  From what you have said below I am not sure if the Get Buffed! Books are for you.  Maintream books are lower cost to the end user with more pictures, backed by massive publishing houses. Our self-published range is not backed by massive publishing houses. Our profit margins on each book are less than mainstream books provide the publishing house yet cheaper to you.

So I would recommend you stay with mainstream books and the in-house editing that comes with them.

As you are only on the beginner program of BOM, you have many years of training left that this book will offer you.

You are also eligible to join our members only forum if you want more info/feedback from others re other 'expensive' KSI material.

You will also be able to read my concepts and writings second hand through some of the articles, book and DVDS produced by others that seem, well very familiar in content. A close examination may even find verbatim copying. And some of these actually sell for more than I sell the original works for.

Personally I reckon my original work, gleaned from 30 years in the industry is priceless, as opposed to expensive.  But I respect your opinion and that's why I think the cost-effectively and higher production quality of the mainstream published books are probably best for you.

All the best with your training and search for cheaper books with pictures. I am sure you will succeed as there are no shortage of these books in the fitness sections of all major book resellers.

KSI 6th Annual Coaching Camp

The KSI 6th Annual Coaching Camp is on very soon, as those who have registered know. We have registrants attending from at least five different countries.  Following on from our initial 1999 boot camps, when we introduced the concept of professional development boot camps to the industry, some have sought to imitate.

As flattering as that may be, we have evolved to a level which is beyond imitation, an experience those who attend understand through the experience and subsequent benefits in their professions, businesses and lives.  Only coaches with real experience and track records of success professionally, financially and personally are given the opportunity to present, as we are aware of the implications of having left brain teaching based on inflated resumes.

So 10 years later, with a decade of continual improvement, KSI continues to lead the world, doing today what others seek to do tomorrow. We look forward to another great event and working with those who are attending.
