 1. Shoretec Articulating Concrete Block (ACB) System Used for Stream Crossing
Cost Effective and Easy to Install, Shoreblock ACB Provides the Solution

VDOT_Cover The Virginia Department of Transportation needed a cost effective solution for a vehicle crossing on a stocked trout stream located in rural Highland County. The Resident VDOT Engineer contacted ACF to discuss the possibility of using Articulating Concrete Blocks (ACBs) for this application.

After obtaining the site grades, hydraulic flow data, desired width of the travel lane , expected vehicle frequency and loads ACF was able to design an ACB System solution. The Shoreblock SD 900 L Closed Cell product was selected for this application due to the hydraulic conditions and anticipated vehicle traffic.

 2. Geoweb Reinforced Industrial Yard Provides Long Term Performance!
ACF continues a series updates on Mature Geosynthetic Applications!

High_Steel_Cover Heavy traffic at High Steel's fabrication facility caused severe rutting of the existing gravel surface and costly long-term maintenance problems. The Presto Geosystems GeowebŪ Load Support System provided a low-maintenance, permeable load-support surface at a staging area for a 10-acre industrial yard site. ACF revisits the original installation and how it has performed and held up after ten years.

The Geoweb system has provided the following structural benefits for this application:
  • Confines aggregates, preventing shear failure and both lateral and vertical movement of the infill material.
  • Creats a stiff load distribution system, effectively reducing subgrade contact pressures and vertical deflections.
  • Controls differential and total settlement over low strength subgrades.
  • Reduction of thickness and weight of confined vs. unconfined structural support by more than 50 percent.
