Several subcontracting segments of the Oklahoma construction industry have recently demonstrated that some out-of-state subcontractors are enjoying unfair competitive advantages over Oklahoma subcontractors due to the out-of-state subcontractor's failure to comply with state laws, requirements and taxes. The American Subcontractors Association of Oklahoma (ASA-OK) is seeking solutions to level the playing field.
Oklahoma City's News Channel 9 today aired a story explaining the problems created when out-of-state subcontractors skirt Oklahoma law, avoid paying state employment taxes, and are allowed to be out-of-compliance with other state rules and regulations. (Click here to view News Channel 9 video.) As the united voice for Oklahoma's subcontractors, ASA-OK is leading meetings with state officials and others in the construction industry to find solutions which will force out-of-state subcontractors to comply with Oklahoma's laws.
