About the Viticulture Club

The Viticulture Club at California State University, Fresno is a student organization within the Department of Viticulture and Enology focused on bridging the gap between the university and the grape industry.  It is one of the oldest clubs on the Fresno State campus.

The Viticulture Club is responsible for organizing and hosting major events including  the annual Fall Harvest BBQ fundraiser, the FFA Pruning Contest, the FFA Vine Judging Contest, and their annual American Viticultural Area (AVA) tour to a selected grape growing region in California.  In 2012, they plan to organize an educational tour of the Santa Barbara grape and wine region.

They are also engaged in a variety of educational and fund-raising activities involving the production and harvest of grapes and grape products.

Funds derived from their fund-raising activities also provide support to their endowment fund which funds several annual viticulture student scholarships.

Fall Harvest BBQ Returns!

On November 12, many of our alumni and friends will gather in Fresno to support the Viticulture Club Fall Harvest BBQ!  This popular fundraiser brings back fond memories for many of our former students and industry friends.  We hope that you and your friends and families will be able to join us for a delicious meal and a chance to win some great prizes.

As many of you know, the Fall Harvest BBQ is the Viticulture Club's major fundraiser.  Proceeds support many activities and projects throughout the year

You won't want to miss this opportunity to reconnect with the Club and many alumni by attending the BBQ or, if you live far away, you can show your support from a distance by making a cash or prize donation to the Club.  Wine, gift baskets, apparel, or any other items for their silent auction and drawing are appreciated.

You will be pleased to know that the Viticulture Club is  in full swing, holding regular meetings, and growing its membership!  The members remain committed to building upon the history of the Viticulture Club while strengthening alumni and industry ties.

Please consider supporting this group of motivated students from the Department of Viticulture and Enology today.  Your support is valued and appreciated.  Thank you.

Dave, David, Horacio, Joseph, Lia
For the 2011 harvest the Club chose to make wine under the Fresno State Winery bond from a classic white wine varietal, Sauvignon Blanc.  Thanks to the help of one of it's student members, Horacio Lopez-Segura, and his father, Enrique Lopez, they were able to get a half ton of premier fruit donated to the Viticulture Club for this project.  The fruit was grown in Lake County, CA at the family run Encanto Vineyards, established in 2001.

The Club plans to pour its Sauvignon Blanc at the upcoming Fall Harvest BBQ this November 12th
