Dr. James Kennedy Named Chair and Director
|
 Dr. James Kennedy, an internationally known grape and wine chemist and research manager from the Australian Wine Research Institute, has been named chair of the Viticulture and Enology Department and director for the Viticulture and Enology Research Center at California State University, Fresno.
Kennedy will join the Fresno State faculty for the fall semester, said Dr. Charles Boyer, dean of the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. Kennedy succeeds Dr. Robert Wample, who retired in 2009.
"Dr. Kennedy's experience and ability to work closely with the grape and wine industry in the San Joaquin Valley, state, and throughout the world will be an important factor as he builds upon the foundation achieved by our faculty, staff, and students," Boyer said.

Fresno State Grape Day is August 10
|
 There's still time to register to attend Fresno State's Grape Day!
Grape growers and winemakers are invited to attend this affordable and informal field day event at the university's viticulture and enology facilities and vineyards in Fresno on August 10 from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm.
The cost to attend Grape Day is only $15, and includes
lunch sponsored by the American Vineyard Magazine.

August 3 is encouraged. Grape Day registration forms and instructions are

Fresno State faculty, staff, and students will give updates on their latest grape and wine research projects through practical morning vineyard and equipment presentations, indoor oral and poster presentations, a tour of the Fresno State Winery, and activities in the Sensory Lab. Some presentations will be given in the Fresno State vineyard, so attendees are encouraged to wear hats and sunscreen.

International Wine Microbiology Symposium returns to the Tenaya Lodge on March 28-30, 2011

Organizers at Fresno State are busy making plans for the return of the International Wine Microbiology Symposium scheduled for March 28-30, 2011 The event will be held at the Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite resort in Fish Camp, California near the south-gate entrance to Yosemite National Park on Hwy 41.
After the success of the first symposium of its kind in 2006, Dr. Roy Thornton is pleased to announce that another excellent program has been developed for 2011. Several industry sponsors are already on board and will provide support to the program, bringing several international experts on wine microbiology to the podium.
