2008 Summer Tabling Project -- 48th Ward

Alderman Mary Ann Smith, the 48th Ward office, and city staff members will set up convenient "outdoor offices" one weekday evening a week from 5:30-7:00pm beginning May 20 around Edgewater and Uptown. The Tabling Project will provide information on city services, neighborhood groups, and volunteer opportunities, as well as provide activities for young and old alike. Edgewater Uptown Builders Association will hold a luncheon meeting Wednesday, May 21, at noon at Reza's, Clark & Berwyn. Special guest will be Verella Osborne president and CEO of Legal Documents Management Inc. She will present information on legislation that adversely impacts building owners. Verella is an advocate for landlord rights. She frequently speaks to property owners associations, government agencies and has conducted training seminars for the City of Chicago Landlord-Training Program, Chicago Law Department, and other groups. $15 members. $20 nonmembers. Safety Seminar at the Library |
The Bezazian Branch of the Chicago Public Library, 1226 W. Ainslie Street, will host a "Street Safety Seminar" with the Chicago Police Department's Dr. Ron Ruffo on Thursday, May 22 at 6:30pm. Dr. Ruffo will discuss staying safe by using intuition and perception, as well as how to carry a purse or briefcase, how to describe someone, using ATMs and safely using public transportation.

Former Students Fiesta

People's Music School is hosting a "Former Students Fiesta" on June 6th, from 7-9pm at 931 W. Eastwood Ave. where former students will reconnect and celebrate in music and merriment. Admission is FREE. RSVP by May 31 to Aubree at 773-784-7032.

Deborah's Place needs used media & electronics

If you have music CDs, Movie DVD's and VHS's, DVD players, VCRs, Books, CD players (boombox and personal), and other similar items, please consider donating them to Deborah's Place. They will be used in one of the many programs/housing sites, or 'flipped' for cash that will go towards operating costs. All items should be in good condition as we cannot afford costly repairs. Items needed:
- Music CDs
- DVD and VHS movies
- DVD Players (in good working condition)
- VCRs (in good working condition)
- Personal and portable CD and DVD players (including 'boomboxes,' and 'diskman')
- Books
- IPODS
- Walkmen (portable audiocassette players)
- Old Laptop Computers (in fair working condition)
- Computer software (Powerpoint, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, etc.)
- Video component sets and games (Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, Playstation, X-Box, Nintendo, etc.)
- Video games (PC, Playstation, Gameboy, etc.)
You can drop off these items at anytime at 1456 W. Oakdale, just behind St. Alphonsus Church on Southport and Wellington, (attn: Jackie Anderson), or e-mail her at jandermsw@aol.com

Congratulations to Uptowners Mark DuPont and Calvin Manshio, recipients of the Vanguard Award for making legal services more available to the community at large.
