Don't Forget Earth Day April 12
Earth DayThe north side communities of Andersonville, Edgewater, Ravenswood, Rogers Park, Uptown, and West Ridge have joined forces with Loyola University Chicago to host the first North Lake Shore Earth Day Celebration scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2008 from 9am-4pm at Loyola University Chicago, Quinlan Life Sciences Building at 1060 W. Sheridan Road. More than 15 workshops and panels explore every aspect of caring for the environment -- globally and locally -- to empower Chicagoans to take action in making the world greener. Protecting Personal Information--Best Practices
FTCThe Federal Trade Commission, the International Association of Privacy Professionals, and the Northwestern University School of Law will co-host a one-day public workshop on how businesses can secure the personal information of consumers and employees on April 15, 2008, 9am-3:30pm at Thorne Auditorium, Arthur Rubloff Building, Chicago Campus, Northwestern University School of Law, 375 E. Chicago Ave. The workshop will feature business people, attorneys, government officials, privacy officers, and other experts discussing data security in general, best practices for developing an appropriate data security program, and how businesses can respond to security problems, including data breaches. Women-Eye with a Purpose Business & Lifestyle Expo
womeneyeThe objective of the Women-Eye With A Purpose Business And Lifestyle Expo is to bring together a community of women dedicated to a common goal of working together to build a better and brighter future for everyone. The Expo will be held on April 17, 2008, 8am-4pm at The Merchandise Mart, 350 West Mart Center/Chicago Apparel Center. For more information on Expo 2008 or to register, go to www.womeneye.org. Registration fee is $35.00 for the day long conference including workshops. Registration and payment should be completed by April 10 to guarantee space in workshops.

As part of the DBA workshops (above) note the special workshop on April 30, 1-3pm designed to provide information on the City's certification process. The City of Chicago provides certifications for businesses owned by minorities, women, disabled, and disadvantaged persons. Applications may be obtained in the Bid and Bond Room, City Hall, 3rd Floor or downloaded from their website at www.cityofchicago.org/procurement.
