Volunteer Children's Grief Facilitator and Mentor Training

September 12 (Saturday 10 am to 6 pm), 13 (Sunday 1 pm to 7 pm) , & 19 (Saturday 10 am to 6 pm) - All three days of training are required prior to working in the peer support groups provided by Kids hurt too. Call 545-5683 or email. Registration form on web site.
 
The training topics include:
1) Your personal journey through grief, learning to do grief work through creative activities and developing awareness of your own process.
2) Historical and current models of grief and how they relate to work with grieving children.
3) Facilitating children's grief through play, arts and crafts, and conversation.
4) Facilitating groups and creating a safe environment for healing young hearts. 
5) Mentoring children, teens, and caregivers.
6) Differences between grief from death, divorce, and separation.

Recent Activities
poi for the soul
Kids hurt too held its' monthly "Poi for the Soul" activity at the Ka Papa Loi O Kanewai and then attended the Hawaii International Forgiveness Day event at the Center for Hawaiian Studies.
 
Children and families attended a Japanese Tea Ceremony at the Japanese Cultural Center.
Ongoing Activities
The FBI Junior Special Agent program is underway with room for current foster youths in 5th, 6th, & 7th grades. It meets every other Wednesday, after school, from 2:30 to 3:30.
 
Computer classes for K-12 taught by Ohana Komputer at our computer lab at the Kukui Center. Classes are held on Tuesday and Friday. Times depend on the age of the children.
 
Tutoring for foster youth in middle and high school during after school hours Monday through Friday.

TAG THE WORLD: A Celebrity Triathlon with Foster Care Alumni August 23, 2009
The triathlon teams up current foster youths, age 17, and former foster youth with celebrities. If you know alumni, please encourage them to contact the Hawaii Foster Youth Coalition at 255-8365 or 545-5683. Daily training sessions are happening at the Kukui Center.
