Greetings!
Welcome once again to all subscribers, plus any of you who might have had this coaching tip forwarded to you by a friend or colleague. Although I have been quiet on the coaching tip front for the past few months, those of you who subscribe to my daily possibility quotes, my twice-weekly possibility reminders or my Mile each day blog, will confirm that I have still been pretty active Speaking of my Run a Mile Each Day experiment, I passed 600 consecutive days last week, and continue to hobble on, despite carrying a bit of an injury and waiting for a course of physiotherapy. My main article this month has been inspired by a lady who transformed what was an ordinary life into an extraordinary one. Please read on to find out how and why. |

Remember me
|
I read a magazine article a few years ago about a lady called Roz Savage who, at the time, had just rowed across the Atlantic on her own.
Since then, Roz has succeeded in becoming the first lady to row solo across the Pacific Ocean, and she is now well over 100 days into her attempt to be the first lady to row solo across the Indian Ocean.
Prior to starting her solo ocean rowing career, Roz had a very different life. One that appeared on the outside to be successful, secure and rewarding.
But Roz would sit on the commuter train on her way to work, wondering if this was what life was all about, and realising that she wasn't happy, she wasn't fulfilled, and she wasn't being true to her values.
So one day Roz decided to write two obituaries for herself.
The first obituary Roz wrote for herself was the one that she wanted to have, what she wanted people to say about her when she was no longer on this earth.
The second obituary Roz wrote was the one that she was heading for at that time - about a life that was conventional, ordinary, and always in the safe confines of normality.
To Roz, the difference between the two obituaries was startling, and this obituary exercise became the catalyst that gradually changed her life from what it was then to the extraordinary adventure that it is now.
In addition to my quote of the month above, there are another couple of my favourite quotes, which Roz's transformation brings to mind.
"Many people die with their music still in them" - Oliver Wendell Holmes "Every man dies; not every man really lives." - William Wallace David Hemery, the former Olympic gold medallist, says, and I absolutely agree with him, that:
"There is a spark of greatness in everyone." How do you want your friends, colleagues and loved ones to remember you?
What is the obituary you would like to be written about you?
What is the obituary you are heading for now?
Have you discovered and fanned the spark of greatness that is in you?
What will you do this month to bring out the music that's in you? |
|
Just take the first step.
Sincerely,
Tony Phillips The Coaching Approach
