"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous - Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just in some of us: it is in everyone, And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same." -  Marianne Williamson

Issue: 5 February 2010
Greetings!

Welcome to all new subscribers this month. Thank you to all of you who continue to share these tips with your colleagues, friends and family. Apparently they seem to find them useful.

I have really enjoyed the challenge I set myself of running at least one mile every single day of January. As a result of the boost that has given me I have continued the challenge into February, and as of the day of writing I have completed 39 consecutive days. It's amazing how momentum can really build when you take on a challenge that has you take action every day. Fingers crossed for the rest of the month.

No book review this month. Unusually, I have reread Rosamund and Benjamin Zander's Art of Possibility this month, as my original version was leant to me and I have a penchant for folding pages and underlining or highlighting inspiring passages.

Anyway, time to sidle out the door and breathe in some more fresh, near zero degree air as I shuffle off past the golf course, dodging the mud and puddles. Don't forget to breathe deeply. Remember it's not a race.
The power of intention

Young boys playing footballHave you noticed that, in general, youth is more conducive to taking risks, experimenting with new experiences and trying new things, and assuming that it will all work out fine.  With age and maturity, care, caution and hesitation take root, obviously because we're not so naive anymore and we know better, right?

Have you also noticed that the naivety and devil-may-care attitude of youth often ends up succeeding much to the amazement and head scratching that our more supposed wise heads had predicted?

Now, I'm not suggesting that we throw all caution to the wind, go out and take outrageous and dangerous risks that could threaten life, limb and the wellbeing of others. However, with my curious hat on, I do find it interesting how that works, don't you?

What I am increasingly finding is that the power of living in alignment with my intentions, beliefs and values surprises me again and again in the way that they in turn align to allow things to work, when with conventional "wisdom" they should not.

Recently I re-examined part of my life where I was beginning to struggle and could increasingly see reasons why things would not work.

It may sound slightly "new age" and a bit "hippy-like" but I have been revitalised by setting and living an intention for my life and my work of kindness, simplicity, self-expression and abundance. I had some help designing this from Rosamund and Ben Zander's book, The Art of Possibility, which I recommended in last month's coaching tip.

Setting this new intention has revitalised me, inspired me, renewed my joy and enthusiasm for life, and has also boosted my coaching and my experience of connecting with others.

I even played a gig last Saturday night, singing to 60 people at a wedding anniversary celebration, for the first time in over 4 years. I loved it!

Setting an inspiring intention redefines the field on which you choose to play out your life. It focuses on the energy of possibility rather than on all the stumbling blocks and reasons why your plans might not work.

So, as far as I'm concerned just because age often brings caution, that is not necessarily wisdom. Curiosity, energy, enthusiasm and the belief that things will work out fine contains more wisdom than we give it credit for. Increased knowledge often obscures curiosity and wisdom. There is a lot to be said for the openness of the beginner's mind!

So my question for you this month is "what intention are you going to set to redefine the playing field that is your life?"

And whatever you choose, make sure you play full out and really have fun.

Enjoy!

See you soon.
Inspiring video

ContagiousThe next nine and a half minutes could be the most inspiring, uplifting nine and a half minutes you spend in the next month, as long as you choose to watch the video clip that follows.

In the video, Kiran Bir Sethi shows how a school in India teaches children that "I Can." This message doesn't only apply to children, I might add.

If
you spend nine and a half minutes and fail to be inspired, e-mail me and I will refund your nine and a half minutes, no questions asked.

Now watch it! I Can
Until next time.....

Sincerely,

Tony Phillips
