Greetings!
We have so much stuff in the works, I'm practically bursting to tell ya about it! Behind the scenes at Dandelion we have been working hard in order to slow down. I know that sounds kinda like a paradox, but let me explain. Chris & I opened Dandelion (two years ago next month) with the notion that we were going to have this rockin' little teahouse, changing our menu with the seasons and living a simple life.
Turns out that we have a bustling restaurant and it's been an adventure to say the least trying to keep up with the tremendous amount of growth we have experienced. Apparently, ya'll love our food & we make a heck of a lot more of it than we ever thought we would in our wildest dreams.
Learning the ropes of owning a business has been about as much as we could keep up with, but we have been steadily working in the background to increase our kitchen space so that we can focus more on seasonal menu items, connect with growers and incorporate local artisanal products into our menu on a consistent basis. (That's the SLOW part - read more about Slow Food here.)
In the next month, we will finally get the extra kitchen up & running. Over the next several months, you will see some pleasant upgrades in your Dandy experience and we hope you will let us know how we are doing. We'll keep you posted as we introduce each new thing.
Meanwhile, we've got plenty of diverse events planned in the next month to keep YOU rockin' & help you slow down from your hectic life. Keep reading for more info! |

A Cosmic Drum Circle with Total Lunar Eclipse
We hope you will join us in being a part of and helping to spread the word about our upcoming Full Moon & Lunar Eclipse Community Circle on Wednesday, February 20, 2008.
Join us as we gather in community to witness and celebrate the last widely visible lunar eclipse in North American until December 20, 2010.
Our evening begins with meditation from Shine On Yoga at 6 pm on the lawn, shared by Kate Levensohn (www.shineonyoga.com). Join us to cultivate your energy and prepare your mind for a powerful spiritual evening.
Community drumming begins at 7 pm on the lawn. The eclipse viewing begins at 8:43 pm. The moon is in total darkness beginning at 10:00 pm - at which time, the drumming concludes with Tibetan bells, and we transition into silent meditation. After our community silence and prayer, we will enter into a meditative circle, featuring crystal bowls and flutes, until the conclusion of the eclipse at midnight.
Share with us as we gather in unity and community to celebrate this powerful spiritual earth event. Thank you for sharing the word! More info on the Moon Circles Here: http://www.holisticlivingschool.org/community/moon.html |

A Summerbird in Your Salad In case ya'll haven't noticed, I LOVE local music, in particular, the local music found right here in OurLando. Half of the Dandelion Tribe is involved in one band or another, which makes for some interesting sing-along's in the kitchen, for sure. While I could go on and on about each and every single one of our rock stars (see Tribe Musicians in left column), I'll highlight one in particular that has been getting a lot of attention.
Curtis Brown (the sweet one in the center, with bandmates brad & tyson)of Summerbirds in the Cellar has been making your wraps for the better part of the past year and will soon be opening for REM at SXSW, which is the Sundance of music festivals. Incidentally, Curtis is also the inspiration for my favorite breakfast menu item: the Curty Pie - a bagel sandwich with apples, cream cheese, cranberries & brown sugar! Check out this music video & look for their album on sale at Dandelion. |

Leap Year Day by Brian Feldman We are proud/ perplexed/ concerned/ hysterical sponsors of the oddest performance art piece that OurLando has ever seen. More Info Here: http://www.brianfeldman.com/
At 12:00am (Midnight) on Friday, February 29, 2008 -- "Leap Year Day," an unprecedented (and entirely unexpected) performance art piece, will commence directly in front of Orlando City Hall at City Commons Plaza (400 S. Orange Ave., Orlando, FL 32802). For 24 consecutive hours, every 3:56 seconds and a total of 366 times, performance artist Brian Feldman will leap off of a 12-foot-high summit.
Featuring the scenic and lighting design of Curtiss Lee Mitchell and sound design by Jason Kupfer, these elements combined with Brian's improvised leaps will serve to create a dreamlike effect for spectators who are invited to experience firsthand this once-in-a-lifetime endurance spectacle, in a continuous performance the likes of which has never been seen in downtown Orlando.
Volunteers Needed: 48 volunteers during the 24 hours of the event on Leap Year Day (Friday, February 29). To pARTicipate in this ridiculousness, please email: LYD@brianfeldman.com . | |
