 GROWING STRONGER CHURCHES: GOING GREEN
 Saturday, March 10, 9:30am-3pm

Let's make Penn Central Conference a GREEN conference! Make your congregation and church stronger by going green. Many people in our community will be interested in congregations that show they care for our earth and are being proactive about environmental mission and advocacy programs. Going green can also help you save money.

Members from the Interfaith Coalition for the Environment (ICE) will join us. In the morning, we'll be viewing "Renewal," a film that shows us for the first time stories of the emerging movement of religious environmentalism across the US. We'll also facilitate a roundtable discussion on what you are doing now, what would you like to do in your congregations and how to get started.

In the afternoon, select two workshops to attend: Eco-justice curricula, Taking steps to make your property green, What churches can do to care for creation and Why and how your church can be a leader in public advocacy for our environment. We'll wrap-up by helping churches plan for the future.

Cost (includes lunch): $10 per person, $25 for three persons from the same church & $8 for additional persons from your church. Deadline for registration: Monday, March 5

 MISSION OPPORTUNITY

Tim Leighton is a UCC pastor serving Church of the Holy Trinity UCC in Hagerstown, Maryland. In a few months, he will join a group of cyclists from around the world. They will ride from Shanghai, China to Istanbul, Turkey a distance of 12,160 kilometers (7,555 miles). This journey will take four and a half months and go through seven countries. You and the members of your congregation are invited to support Tim spiritually and sponsor him financially.

This ride is about changing lives, the lives of at-risk youth here in the USA and the lives of rural Africans. It is a fundraiser for two charities: The Community Bicycle Center and the Tour d'Afrique Foundation. The Community Bicycle Center works with hundreds of at-risk youth through a mentoring program, bicycle maintenance classes, and bicycle safety courses. The Tour d'Afrique Foundation through local partners donates bicycles to rural health workers in Africa. These bicycles will ensure that thousands of Africans living in rural areas will have access to a trained health care provider.

You are invited to donate 1 cent for each kilometer (12,160) that Tim will ride for a grand total of $121.60. You are free to give as generously as you are able. As a sponsor your congregation's name will be prominently featured on Tim's blog site created specifically for this ride, facebook, twitter, and any other media put forth to promote the bicycle expedition.
