Our 2012 Mid-Winter Clergy Convocation, set for Jan. 24-26, 2012 at Hotel Hershey, will feature guest speaker Dr. Peter Steinke. Dr. Steinke is an internationally respected systems consultant who has also served as a parish pastor, an educator, and a therapist for clergy. His most recent book is "A Door Set Open: Grounding Change in Mission and Hope." The title of his presentations for us will be "A Door Set Open - Leaders of Change and Hope" to guide our clergy to face the changing issues in today's church. This continuing education opportunity combines enrichment and fellowship and relaxation opportunities for pastors and spouses.

 DISASTER RELIEF INFO
 Cleanup Bucket KIts Needed

Florence Coppola, Executive, National Disaster Ministries UCC Wider Church Ministries, is asking for cleanup bucket kits for Church World Service (CWS). CWS has started a drive to collect 10,0000 buckets before the end of the year. The UCC has always been a strong supporter of the buckets.

There is a CWS location less than a 2 hour drive away in New Windsor, MD. Congregations or associations can take them directly to New Windsor, MD or if need be, the Disaster Relief/Response Ministry Team will provide transportation. Contact the conference office if transportation is needed.

Wile we are dealing with this dual hurricane disaster, all congregations should be thinking about developing a congregational emergency operations plan (EOP) if they don't have one or updating it if they do.Other steps that can be taken are listed in the ten point resolution passed this June at annual meeting. If help is needed, contact your association Disaster Relief/Response Coordinator or the conference office.

Bring a Firend Sunday logo If you invite them, they will come!
Building on the success of last year's Friend-Raising Weekend, the UCC is holding Each One Bring One Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011. Each UCC member is asked to invite co-worker(s), family member(s) or friend(s) to join them for a day of fellowship and worship! Coinciding with MISSION:1, Each One Bring One Sunday is a great way to showcase the UCC's 'Extravagant Welcome'.

 NATIONAL YOUTH EVENT
 July 10-13, Purdue University, IN

National Youth Event 2012 logo WOW! Penn Central Conference congregations have nominated almost 400 youth that they feel would enjoy attending the UCC's National Youth Event (NYE), July 10-13, 2012 at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana as part of the Penn Central Conference delegation. These youth have received letters of invitation from the conference to attend one of five informational sessions that are being held throughout Penn Central Conference in October.

WHAT IS NATIONAL YOUTH EVENT: National Youth Event, held every four years, provides an opportunity for over 3000 youth (ages 13 to 18 as of July 2012) to gather for worship, workshops, faith, fun and fellowship. It is planned by the collaborative efforts of the UCC national staff and an NYE Event Planning Committee comprised of a diverse group of UCC youth and young adults. In fact, one of the young adults on this NYE's planning team, Jennifer Dennis, is from our own Penn Central Conference.

NYE is open to all youth so if you know of a youth who is interested in attending NYE and they did not receive one of the personal letters, please personally invite the youth and their parents to attend one of the informational sessions below. They may select whichever date and location is most convenient.

Sunday, October 16, 3pm-4:30pm - (Lancaster/York area) Trinity UCC, 200 E Market Street, Hallam
Sunday, October 16, 3pm-4:30pm - (Carlisle/Chambersburg area) First UCC, 30 N Pitt St, Carlisle
Sunday, October 23, 2pm-3:30pm - (Gettysburg/Hanover area) St David's UCC, 142 Hobart Rd, Hanover
Sunday, October 30, 3pm-4:30pm - (Harrisburg/Lebanon area) Trinity UCC, 40 W Pine Street, Palmyra
Sunday, October 30, 3pm-4:30pm - (Central/Northern area) - St Paul's UCC, 400 N Market Street, Selinsgrove

At the info session they will discover more about the UCC National Youth Event. They will hear from someone who has attended a past NYE, learn Penn Central's transportation plans, costs, fundraising opportunities, how to register and much more. There will be a time for questions from parents and youth. The informational gathering is strictly an opportunity for the youth and their family to gather information. Pastors and Youth Leaders are also invited to attend.

If there are questions or a family would like to attend an informational session, please contact Brenda Waleff at the conference office. (bwaleff@pccucc.org 717-652-1560)
