This Monthly Mailing has information on our 2011 Annual Meeting and ideas on how to raise money for the Great Hartman Center Mission Challenge. We're also holding another Penn Central Day at the Senators so bring your church to the ballpark that day and join others from your conference in rooting on the Senators. This is just some of info in this month's Mailing.

Parish Resource Center will Host Free Church Building Expo
There will be a free Church Building Expo, "Facilit(ies)ating for Ministry," hosted by the Parish Resource Center, Lancaster, on Saturday, April 9, 8:30 am to 12:30pm at Hempfield United Methodist Church, Stony Battery Road & Marietta Pike, Lancaster. Experts will help church leaders assess whether their buildings facilitate or hinder their ministry and how to make their facility visitor friendly. The expo begins with a panel discussion, during which panelists will speak about church building trends and ideas to improve buildings for ministry. There will be displays by local building contractors, architects, banks and stewardship experts, as well as six mini-workshops on topics such as remodeling, expanding, or upgrading their current facilities. Each attendee may attend two workshops. This free workshop is open to the public. People are asked to register by April 6. Interested people may call 717-299-9932 or check their website.

Safe Church Information
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Children are the most vulnerable members of our faith communities. And although many of us are diligent in teaching our children not to accept rides from strangers, too often we neglect the most important safety lesson of all: teaching our children about how to protect themselves from sexual abuse when the offender is an adult within the child's "safe world.". 90% of children are molested by someone they know and trust. As churches, we can do much more to protect our children, who deserve to be safe both within our church and out in the world. A Safe Church environment is one that provides for the protection of the physical, emotional, and spiritual health and well being of each person. More than simply offering protection from danger, the Safe Church sees itself as a sanctuary, where one finds protection, security, support, guidance and the presence of God.
The Samaritan Counseling Center, Mennonite Central Committee and Lancaster YWCA are sponsoring a free event "Preparing Churches to Protect Children" on Saturday, April 9 from 9am-11am at the Lancaster YWCA. RSVP by April 2 to www.DovesNest.net.
You may also schedule a workshop on protecting children or learn more about our "safe church" program, by contacting Linda Crockett at Samaritan Counseling: 717-625-1722; LCrockett@scclanc.org.
