What matters to you?
So many times we make a positive change in our life, but it just doesn't last. Remember that new diet you were supposed to start on Monday? How about those French lessons? Do you have a piece of exercise equipment that acts as a clothes hanger right now? It's OK! We've all done it...Started something new, with the best of intentions, only to have our motivation deplete until before you know it things are back to the way they were before. It's not that we're choosing the wrong things to do; it's just that we aren't doing them for the right reasons, and with the right support structures in place. If you want to create something new in your life, you've got to have great reasons for it. Not your mom's great reasons, or society's great reasons, but your great reasons! Reasons that are tied in to your values...The things that matter most to you in your heart. For example, thinking "I'm going to reduce sugar in my diet so I can look nice in my jeans" probably isn't going to be a good enough reason, aligned with your higher self, to sustain change. However, intending "I'm going to reduce sugar in my diet because I want to treat my body the best I can, so that I can be as healthy as possible, and therefore bring the most good to my life, my family and my community" may be a much better, and continuously motivating, reason. Once you know you have a reason for doing something that really matters to you, you'll want to make sure you have great support structures. Support structures are the things, people and conditions that are going to help you sustain change. In our reducing sugar example above, a poor support structure would be a family habit of buying doughnuts every Saturday morning. A great support structure would be a family habit of visiting the health food store on Saturday mornings! Very often, healthy support structures start by being around people that have similar goals and values. That is why a visit to the Grail can be so helpful. Having a chance to spend time with people who also want to do what is most healthy for themselves and the world can create the type of sustained, internally refreshing motivation that makes positive change last. With reasons aligned with your values, and support structures such as the Grail Life Plan, you'll find positive change can be so easy it's almost unstoppable! ~ Coach Michele
